Mechanical Technician Job Description This role focuses on sanding, buffing, and automotive paint preparation to support high-quality finishes on specialized vehicles. You will use hand and power tools, including angle grinders, to remove surface imperfections and buff components to a high-gloss, mirror-like finish while working as part of a collaborative production team. Responsibilities Sand vehicle and component surfaces to remove imperfections and prepare them for automotive paint and detailing. Buff painted and finished surfaces to achieve a high-gloss, mirror-like appearance using appropriate tools and materials. Operate hand and power tools, including drills, screw guns, caulk guns, and angle grinders, in a safe and efficient manner. Measure materials and components accurately using a tape measure to precise specifications, ensuring quality and consistency. Assemble mechanical components and parts as needed to support chassis and apparatus production. Follow detailed instructions and work orders to complete tasks in the correct sequence and within required timeframes. Collaborate with team members on the production floor to coordinate work, share information, and maintain workflow. Communicate professionally with coworkers and supervisors to clarify requirements and report progress or issues. Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper handling and storage of tools and materials. Follow all safety procedures and guidelines, including the proper use of personal protective equipment and safe operation of tools. Perform physically demanding tasks such as frequent bending, stooping, squatting, and climbing up and down ladders. Lift and move materials and components weighing up to 40 pounds as part of daily duties. Essential Skills Strong mechanical aptitude with experience working in a hands-on production or mechanical environment. Ability to read and use a tape measure to precise measurements with at least 2 years of experience. Proficiency using hand tools and power tools such as drills, screw guns, and caulk guns with at least 2 years of experience. Experience with sanding and buffing surfaces, ideally in an automotive paint or auto body detailing setting. Ability to operate power tools and angle grinders safely and effectively. Capability to work effectively in a team environment and support shared production goals. Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally and follow directions accurately. Physical ability to perform frequent bending, stooping, squatting, and climbing ladders. Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds safely and repeatedly during the workday. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlotte, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.50 - $19.50/hr.
