Assembly Technician Job Description As an Assembly Technician, you will play a crucial role in assembling both sub-assemblies and final products. Your work will primarily involve using common hand tools and following drawings and manufacturing procedures in a clean shop environment. Beyond mechanical assembly, the role also requires light electrical assembly. You will be responsible for building equipment primarily for Strainoptics devices, with additional tasks involving subassembly for other products as your experience and efficiency grow. Part of your responsibilities will include validating, checking, and calibrating the products. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a sense of urgency, comfortable working in a small team, and able to follow drawings and procedures. Responsibilities Assemble mechanical and electrical components to build technical instruments according to engineering drawings and specifications. Perform electronic soldering of components on instrument builds and some repairs. Test and troubleshoot systems to detect and solve technical problems. Conduct visual inspections of components and completed systems to ensure quality standards are met. Maintain accurate records of production data, testing results, and other reports related to the assembly process. Perform repairs and/or calibrations on equipment to ensure proper operation. Collaborate with other departments such as engineering, quality control, and production to ensure efficient assembly processes. Follow safety procedures and guidelines to ensure a safe work environment. Keep tools and work areas clean and organized. Perform other miscellaneous duties and/or special projects as required. Essential Skills Mechanical assembly expertise. Experience in electronic soldering. Proficiency in using hand and power tools, including measuring devices. Ability to read and interpret manufacturing/assembly procedures. Strong attention to detail. Excellent communication skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 2 years of experience in assembly or a related field. Technical degree or certification in a related field is a plus. Experience using a digital voltmeter is desirable but not required. Experience using micrometers and calipers is a plus but not required. Familiarity with safety procedures and guidelines. Ability to work efficiently with a sense of urgency to meet daily goals and delivery schedules. Work Environment The work environment is a clean shop setting where you will primarily use common hand tools. The role involves light electrical and mechanical assembly, requiring adherence to safety procedures and guidelines. You will work closely with a small team, emphasizing collaboration and communication. The position demands organization and cleanliness in maintaining tools and workspaces. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Northfield, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
