Job Title:
Mechanical Technician Job Description This Mechanical Technician role offers the opportunity to work hands-on alongside engineers on a product development team focused on high-end home automation and lighting products. You will support the full product development lifecycle, from initial concept through development and testing, by building test setups, executing test plans, and helping improve products and processes. This position is onsite at a modern facility in Coopersburg, PA and is ideal for someone who enjoys learning new skills, thinking independently, and understanding how mechanical systems work and fit together. Responsibilities Work as an integral member of cross-functional engineering teams to support the development of new home automation and lighting products. Construct test walls, racks, fixtures, and displays using basic hand tools to simulate real-world environments and product usage. Install and affix prototype products such as automated blinds, dimmer switches, and lighting systems onto test fixtures and test walls. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues with both test products and test fixtures to ensure accurate and reliable testing. Help execute pre-written test plans accurately and consistently, following established procedures and timelines. Log test data into the customer's systems and MS Excel spreadsheets in a clear, organized, and accurate manner. Understand, document, and clearly describe defects, anomalies, and issues encountered during testing. Collaborate closely with engineers and technical staff to refine and improve test methods, setups, and procedures. Execute ad-hoc tests based on needs and instructions communicated by senior team members and engineers. Review test results with senior team members, clearly communicate findings, and participate in discussions about product performance. Offer suggestions for process improvements and help implement changes that enhance test efficiency, safety, and product quality. Participate in abuse testing and other specialized tests to evaluate product durability and performance under demanding conditions. Essential Skills Hands-on mechanical experience, including mechanical assembly and repair. Ability to work confidently with basic hand tools and power tools. Demonstrated ability to understand how mechanical components and systems work and fit together. Proven ability to learn and use new software tools and systems. Proficiency with MS Office, particularly Microsoft Excel for logging and analyzing test data. High school diploma or equivalent educational qualification. Capability to troubleshoot mechanical issues in test products and fixtures. Comfort working in a structured test environment and following written test plans. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in the mechanical field or a related technical area. Exposure to CAD or mechanical design tools, with interest in learning 3D design. Experience with mechanical assembly in a product development or testing environment. Familiarity with test setups, fixtures, and simulated environments for product evaluation. Strong observational skills and attention to detail when documenting defects and test outcomes. Interest in home automation, lighting systems, or smart devices. Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and technical staff and contribute ideas for process improvement. Work Environment This role is based onsite at a high-tech home automation and lighting facility in Coopersburg, PA. You will work in a hands-on lab and test area where engineers and technicians collaborate on full-cycle product development from design through manufacturing. The environment includes test walls, fixtures, and prototype setups, and you will regularly use basic hand tools, power tools, and computer systems including MS Office and customer-specific software. All design work for the products you support is performed on the same campus, creating close collaboration between design, testing, and manufacturing teams. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Coopersburg, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $28.00/hr.
