Mechanical Technician - Conveyor Field Installation Job Description This role focuses on installing, commissioning, and maintaining conveyor systems at customer sites across the United States. You will work extensively in the field, traveling to distribution and industrial facilities to perform mechanical and electrical installations, troubleshoot issues, and ensure systems operate safely and efficiently. The position requires significant travel, hands-on mechanical work, and close collaboration with project and engineering teams to deliver high-quality, on-time installations. Responsibilities Install and commission conveyor equipment and systems, including mechanical and electrical components, at customer sites. Ensure all installations comply with project specifications, safety regulations, and quality standards. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to conveyor system installation, operation, and maintenance. Perform mechanical repairs, preventive maintenance, and adjustments on conveyor systems, including components involving pneumatics and hydraulics. Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, specifications, and schematics to guide installation and repair work. Use basic hand tools and power tools, including those specific to conveyor installation, in a safe and efficient manner. Inspect conveyor systems and related equipment to identify potential issues and recommend corrective actions. Communicate project status, risks, and issues clearly to the project manager and internal teams. Collaborate with engineering, sales, customer service, and other internal departments to ensure project success and customer satisfaction. Maintain accurate project documentation, including installation records, inspection reports, and service logs. Operate ladders, forklifts, and scissor lifts safely and in accordance with OSHA and site-specific safety requirements. Follow all Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) requirements at customer facilities and promote a strong safety culture on-site. Travel extensively to client locations, often remaining on the road for extended periods (30-60 days at a time) based on field service needs. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support installation, maintenance, and service operations. Essential Skills Proven experience with mechanical assembly, machine assembly, and mechanical aptitude for industrial equipment. Hands-on experience with conveyor installations and conveyor field service work. Ability to perform mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance on conveyor systems and related equipment. Working knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics as they apply to conveyor and material handling systems. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, specifications, and schematics. Experience using basic hand tools and power tools associated with conveyor installation. Ability to perform wiring tasks associated with conveyor system installation and commissioning. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues in the field. Ability to work independently in remote field environments and effectively as part of a team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with internal teams and external customers. High school diploma or equivalent (technical degree preferred). Proficiency in reading and writing English; ability to read and interpret technical documents and write routine reports and correspondence. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and the ability to use mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, or laptops for documentation and communication. Willingness and ability to travel extensively (100% travel) and remain on the road for 30-60 days at a time based on field service needs. Physical ability to work in a field installation environment, including standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, lifting and carrying items of at least 50 pounds, and climbing ladders. Ability to safely operate forklifts and scissor lifts and follow OSHA safety standards. Comfort working around moving mechanical parts and in active industrial and distribution environments. Additional Skills & Qualifications Technical degree or vocational training in mechanical, industrial, or related fields. Experience with conveyor-specific tools, systems, and technologies such as ADTA and Mechlite. Understanding of Spanish in addition to fluency in English. Experience working in large distribution or e-commerce facilities. Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate documentation, including project reports and service records. Work Environment This is a field-based role that requires 100% travel within the United States, with assignments that may keep you on the road for 30-60 days at a time depending on service needs. You will primarily work in large distribution and industrial facilities, including major e-commerce sites, where you must follow all site-specific Environmental Health & Safety requirements. The work environment involves regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and active material handling operations. You will frequently stand, walk, climb ladders, and work at heights using forklifts and scissor lifts, always adhering to OSHA safety standards. The role requires regular use of multiple hand and power tools associated with conveyor installation, as well as mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, or laptops for reporting and communication. You may occasionally be exposed to materials covered by Safety Data Sheets (SDS), though these are not life-threatening when handled properly.
