II - DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Preps, Terminate, splice, bonds/grounds and tests fiber optic equipment to division standards OSP Aerial and Underground. Terminate inside plant FDP end points Perform ring cuts, butt-splices, enter splice cases on live fiber without affecting existing services. Perform fiber tests with OTDR s, light source and meters. Provide accurate equipment location, splicing and terminating records for the fiber database and interpret engineering provided drawings. Monitor, communicate and perform corrective actions to fix problems affecting any fiber or fiber related equipment. Install/replace enclosures and other fiber related telecom equipment as required or instructed. Must have experience using and calibrating the following equipment: fusion splicer, mechanical splicer, OTDR, power meters, traffic identifiers, digital multi-meters, cleavers, strippers, buffer tube splitters, cable ring tools, hand tools, toners, duct rodders, ladders, bucket trucks, etc. Must possess prior knowledge of OSP and ISP network design and infrastructure principles Must possess the ability to interpret plans, drawings, diagrams, and be able to correctly identify and record OSP as-built fiber routes. Must be able to maintain accurate records and input data into software programs used for information storage and retrieval (database entry).
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma, or equivalent
- Candidate must be experienced in modern Fiber Splicing Techniques for the Telecommunications Industry, FOC or FIberOptic.com Certification a plus
- 2 years Fiber optic field splicing experience and test equipment 2 years experience and demonstrated OSHA certification for operating bucket truck capable of reaching 40 Valid Texas Commercial Driver s License (CDL) required.
