Position Summary:
Responsible for developing and validating special processes, manufacturing process specifications, welding schedules, and evaluating existing designs given knowledge of materials, chemistry, and engineering/manufacturing best practices.
Description of Duties:
Collect, maintain, and analyze data related to materials and processes Perform trade studies related to materials and processes Perform research related to specific projects and write process documentation and manuals Participate in the selection, qualification, testing, and failure analysis of materials and processes, including special processes Support technical engineering assignments related to hardware assembly processes and testing. Assist Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Engineering, and Procurement in resolving material and process issues Develop and document internal manufacturing processes, including special processes. Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of a variety of manufacturing concepts, practices, and procedures Knowledge of equipment and systems appropriate to related discipline Knowledge of Industry Standards as related to materials. ( Mil
STD, ANSI, ASTM, SAE, AWS
) Knowledge of Material Usage and Identification Listing and reporting as required by NASA Knowledge of special process approval and monitoring requirements for human spaceflight programs, military programs, or other equivalent industries Skill in applying M&P engineering principles and procedures Skill in engineering design applications Skilled in understanding materials compatibility, ideally including metals, elastomers, and polymers

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in either aerospace engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, or related field 5-7 years related experience in the industry or in a related area
