Position Summary :
The Manufacturing Engineer serves as the primary technical and safety resource for the Benicia production facility. This role is responsible for driving continuous improvement across all production operations — developing and maintaining process documentation, workmanship standards, and safety programs — while providing hands-on technical support to the shop floor. The ideal candidate brings both engineering discipline and a practical, floor-level mindset to improve quality, safety, efficiency, and material flow.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITIES/DUTIES
Pull and inspect inventory, verify orders, prepare, wrap, and palletize freight and parcels for shipping. Load and unload trucks, using a pallet jack and/or forklift. Maintain a safe work environment and compliance with company safety policies. Be able to work at a manufacturing production pace/schedule. Alert Shipping Manager of any issues or delays with meeting shipping deadlines. Submit completed shipping paperwork daily to the Shipping Manager. End of day cleanup of shipping area. Communicate well with vendors and co-workers and operate with a sense of teamwork. Perform other job-related duties or other assigned tasks and projects as directed by Shipping Manager. Key Responsibilities Process Engineering & Documentation Evaluate current production workflows and recommend improvements to increase efficiency, quality, and throughput Create, verify, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and process specification documents for all production work cells Develop and implement workmanship standards; deliver training to production personnel to ensure consistent application Develop and maintain binders for SOPs & SDSs organized by work cell; ensure documents are current and accessible on the shop floor Evaluate data from production operations to identify improvement opportunities and track sustained gains Lead or support root cause analysis (RCA) for production problems; develop and implement corrective actions Provide ongoing technical guidance and troubleshooting assistance to production supervisors and operators Equipment & Technical Support Serve as the primary technical resource for production equipment, including CNC machinery, woodworking equipment, and facility systems Support new equipment implementations from specification through installation, commissioning, and operator training Review and update preventive maintenance (PM) schedules and procedures; coordinate with operations to minimize downtime Act as initial point of contact for facility maintenance and equipment needs Packaging, Receiving & Inventory Evaluate, develop, and document packaging standards and instructions to ensure product integrity during shipping Collaborate with the receiving team to create incoming material acceptance criteria for vendor deliveries Analyze material flow and inventory practices; identify and implement opportunities for optimization Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Maintain and update Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all chemicals used in the facility; ensure SDS binders are current and accessible at each work cell Oversee fire safety compliance, including inspections, equipment checks, and employee awareness Manage chemical waste procedures in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations Identify and mitigate environmental hazards present in the shop environment. Responsible for compliance reporting including but not limited to CERS and OSHA Support shop floor safety initiatives, including participation in weekly safety talks, hazard identification, and near-miss reporting Develop and maintain safety training materials; ensure production employees are trained on relevant safety topics Continuous Improvement Champion a culture of continuous improvement throughout the facility Lead value stream mapping activities to identify process improvement opportunities Sustain improvement initiatives over time; monitor outcomes and adjust as needed to hold gains Develop and deliver training materials to support process changes and new procedures Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, accounting, and leadership on projects that impact facility performance Qualifications Required 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment in a process engineering, industrial engineering, or similar technical role Demonstrated experience writing SOPs, work instructions, or process specifications Working knowledge of EH&S requirements including SDS management, chemical waste handling, and fire safety compliance Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills (5-Why, Fishbone, or similar methodologies) Ability to read and interpret production drawings, technical documents, and equipment manuals Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable delivering training on the shop floor Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel); familiarity with ERP systems a plus Preferred Experience in custom woodworking, millwork, cabinetry, store fixtures, or other product manufacturing Familiarity with Lean manufacturing tools (5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping) OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification (General Industry) Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar) a plus BS in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
