About the Role

As a Tool Engineer, you will play a critical role in supporting advanced aerospace manufacturing and production programs. Youll be responsible for designing and developing specialized tooling, fixtures, jigs, gauges, and support equipment that enable precision assembly and composite manufacturing operations. Working alongside engineering, manufacturing, operations, and vendor partners, youll help ensure projects meet quality, safety, schedule, and cost objectives while contributing to technologies that push the boundaries of whats possible across land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace.

What Youll DoTooling Design & Development

Develop innovative tooling concepts and support equipment for new and existing aerospace programs.

Design industrial tools, dies, gauges, drill and assembly jigs, fixtures, machine attachments, and specialized equipment.

Create engineering drawings, inspection requirements, verification plans, layouts, sketches, and design proposals.

Review designs for manufacturability, fit, form, and function.

Project Execution & Collaboration

Partner with manufacturing, operations, process engineering, vendors, and engineering teams to ensure tooling solutions meet program requirements.

Participate in design reviews and collaborate with stakeholders to validate requirements and expectations.

Manage tooling projects, including schedules, budgets, procurement activities, and fabrication oversight.

Support vendors during fabrication and inspect completed tooling for drawing compliance.

Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

Verify drawings and layouts for completeness, clarity, dimensional accuracy, and adherence to engineering standards.

Identify design issues and recommend improvements to optimize performance and manufacturability.

Apply GD&T principles and drawing standards to ensure engineering excellence.

Assess and mitigate safety risks in accordance with company, industry, and regulatory requirements.

Support root cause investigations, non-conformance reviews, and process improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline.

Experience with industry-standard design tools, including NX CAD and CATIA.

Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, fabrication methods, and machine shop practices.

Experience reviewing engineering drawings for:

Completeness and dimensional accuracy

Material and process requirements

Compliance with drafting and design standards

Fabrication, assembly, and installation feasibility

Knowledge and application of GD&T (ASME

Y14.5-2018

).

Knowledge and application of welding symbols and related drawing standards.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.

Ability to independently manage priorities, projects, and resources.

Must be eligible to obtain a Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience within an aerospace manufacturing environment.

Experience designing, developing, and fabricating special tooling and support equipment.

Experience supporting composite part manufacturing through tooling design and implementation.

Ability to evaluate vendor capabilities for tooling and aerospace production requirements.

Experience developing tooling Statements of Work (SOW) and design estimates.

Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.

Strong project management and organizational capabilities.

Experience performing stress analysis through hand calculations and

FEMAP/NASTRAN.

Professional Engineering (PE) License.

Current active DoD Secret Clearance with an investigation or periodic review completed within the past five years.

Pay Details:

$58.53 per hour
