Job Title:
Manufacturing Engineer - Avionics Hardware and Wire Harnesses Job Description This role focuses on developing and optimizing manufacturing processes for avionics hardware and wire harnesses, ensuring products are designed for manufacturability, production is ready and efficient, and quality standards are consistently met. The Manufacturing Engineer partners closely with design, supply chain, quality, and build teams to create robust process documentation, support production builds, and drive continuous improvement across avionics manufacturing operations. Responsibilities Develop detailed process plans, work instructions, and work orders for the manufacturing of avionics hardware and wire harnesses. Conduct Manufacturing Readiness Reviews (MRRs) to confirm production readiness, identify risks, and implement mitigation plans before major builds. Collaborate with design engineers to provide Design for Manufacturability (DFM) feedback and enhance product designs for ease of fabrication and assembly. Support build technicians on the production floor by troubleshooting manufacturing issues, resolving non-conformances, and implementing effective corrective actions. Work closely with supply chain and quality teams to ensure the procurement and inspection of high-quality avionics components. Analyze process performance and yield data to identify trends, address issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Develop and maintain capacity and demand plans to align manufacturing capabilities with production requirements. Create, update, and maintain process documentation, including manufacturing work instructions, process control plans, and test procedures, to ensure consistent and repeatable production. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. 7+ years of experience in manufacturing, process development, or production support for avionics hardware. Hands-on experience with printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), avionics boxes, or wire harness fabrication and assembly. Knowledge of IPC standards for PCB and cable assembly. Proven experience developing and maintaining process documentation such as manufacturing work instructions, process control plans, and test procedures. Ability to collaborate effectively with design, supply chain, quality, and production teams to solve complex manufacturing problems. Strong analytical skills to evaluate process performance and yield data and translate findings into actionable improvements. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience supporting build technicians on the production floor and resolving non-conformances in a timely and structured manner. Demonstrated capability to conduct Manufacturing Readiness Reviews (MRRs) and manage risk mitigation activities. Background in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and familiarity with improving product designs for efficient fabrication and assembly. Experience working with avionics components and systems in a production environment. Strong written communication skills for creating clear, precise, and user-friendly process documentation. Work Environment The role operates in a manufacturing and engineering environment focused on avionics hardware and wire harness production. You will work closely with design engineers, build technicians, and supply chain and quality teams, spending time both in an office setting for planning and documentation and on the production floor to support builds and troubleshoot issues. The environment emphasizes adherence to IPC standards, robust process control, and continuous improvement of yield and throughput, with a strong focus on quality, reliability, and collaboration across functions. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Long Beach, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $67.00/hr.
