Job Description

At Opdo, we are building a new manufacturing platform for optics. We combine AI-driven optical system design with radically faster fabrication workflows to make custom optics accessible on timelines the industry considers impossible. Our platform connects optical engineering, computational design, advanced fabrication, and manufacturing automation into a single workflow — from concept to physical part. We are now looking for a Manufacturing Engineer, Precision Optics to join our manufacturing team in Los Angeles. This is an opportunity to work hands-on with next-generation optical fabrication technologies and help build the future of precision optics manufacturing inside an ambitious deep-tech startup environment. What You'll Do Support the setup and operation of Opdo's precision optics manufacturing workflows Work hands-on with advanced optical fabrication and finishing processes Collaborate closely with optical designers, software engineers, and AI teams Help improve manufacturing quality, repeatability, and throughput Support QA and metrology workflows for imaging-grade optics Participate in prototype builds and manufacturing process development Contribute to scaling manufacturing workflows toward production What We're Looking ForStrongly Preferred Hands-on experience in precision manufacturing or engineering environments Strong mechanical intuition and attention to detail Understanding of tolerances, surface finish, and precision manufacturing Experience working with precision equipment or metrology systems Ability to work in a fast-moving engineering environment Also Valuable Single-Point Diamond Turning (SPDT) Ultra-precision machining systems Optical polishing Freeform optics experience Optical fabrication environment experience Medical, aerospace, semiconductor, or defense optics background CAD/CAM or manufacturing software familiarity Experience supporting prototype or low-volume production workflows Startup mentality and willingness to learn quickly Why Join Opdo Work on technology that does not exist elsewhere in the industry Join a highly technical, ambitious, fast-moving team Direct exposure to cutting-edge optical manufacturing technologies Opportunity for rapid growth and responsibility Small team, minimal bureaucracy, fast execution Significant long-term upside and impact Ideal Candidate You are someone who: Enjoys working hands-on with precision systems and machines Cares deeply about quality and process details Likes solving practical engineering problems Learns quickly and adapts fast Wants to help build something exceptional from an early stage Pay and Benefits Flexible Vacation / Paid Sick Time / Family Leave Medical and Dental Insurance Stock Options Base pay is $110,000-$150,000 depending on experience level Pay Transparency The anticipated salary range listed for this role is only an estimate.
