Job Description

Massman Companies is hiring for Mechanical Engineer for our Aftermarket Department at our ADCO site in Sanger, CA. This is a great opportunity with benefits and vacation pay. Check us out! The Mechanical Engineer supports the design, development, and continuous improvement of ADCO packaging machinery and related equipment. This entry-level position combines fundamental engineering knowledge with practical, hands-on involvement in manufacturing, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting. ADCO values practical mechanical aptitude in addition to academic engineering knowledge. Mechanical Engineer employees are expected to work closely with manufacturing, assembly, commissioning, aftermarket, and field service personnel to understand how their designs are manufactured, assembled, operated, maintained, and serviced. Under the guidance of experienced engineers, the Mechanical Engineer will develop mechanical designs, create and maintain engineering drawings and bills of materials, assist with machine testing and troubleshooting, and support engineering changes and improvement projects. The position is intended to develop engineers who understand not only how to design equipment, but how that equipment performs in a real-world production environment. Education Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a closely related field. Recent graduates and candidates with 0-2 years of professional engineering experience considered. Strong candidates with relevant co-op, internship, machine-building, fabrication, or manufacturing experience will receive full consideration.
Skills and Competencies:
Working knowledge of 3D CAD; SolidWorks experience strongly preferred .
Ability to create and interpret:
Mechanical drawings Assemblies Detail drawings Bills of materials Basic tolerances and fits Fundamental understanding of: Machine design Statics and dynamics Materials Bearings, shafts, chains, belts, gears, and power transmission Pneumatic systems Fasteners and basic fabrication methods Basic understanding of GD&T and standard engineering drawing practices: Ability to perform basic engineering calculations involving loads, speeds, torque, horsepower, deflection, and component sizing. Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, and assembly.
Practical / Manufacturing
Ability Comfortable working around industrial machinery and in a manufacturing environment. Willing and able to spend time on the shop floor supporting assembly, troubleshooting, testing, and machine commissioning. Ability to use basic measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and similar inspection equipment. Must be willing to physically inspect machinery rather than relying solely on CAD models or drawings. Problem-Solving Expectations Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and curiosity about how machinery works. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems using a logical root-cause process. Willingness to ask questions, receive feedback, and learn from senior engineers, technicians, assemblers, and field-service personnel. Ability to take a defined engineering problem and develop a practical solution with appropriate guidance. Communication Able to communicate clearly with engineering, manufacturing, assembly, purchasing, aftermarket, and field-service personnel. Ability to document design changes, calculations, testing results, and engineering decisions. Professional written and verbal communication skills. Must be receptive to feedback from manufacturing and field personnel regarding machine performance and serviceability. Work Requirements Ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional engineering team. Ability to manage several smaller engineering assignments simultaneously. Willingness to support machine testing, FAT activities, installation, startup, and troubleshooting as required. Some travel to customer facilities may be required. Ability to work around operating machinery and meet applicable plant/customer safety requirements.
Physical Demands and Work Environment :
Regularly required to stand, use hands, and lift up to 50 pounds. Exposure to moderate noise and potentially hazardous equipment, with required use of protective gear. Preferred Qualifications SolidWorks certification or significant SolidWorks coursework. Internship/co-op experience with automated machinery, packaging equipment, conveyors, robotics, or manufacturing equipment. Hands-on experience building, repairing, or modifying machinery, vehicles, fabrication projects, robotics, or similar mechanical systems. Exposure to servo systems, robotics, pneumatics, vacuum systems, conveyors, and automated material handling. Understanding of design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly principles. Experience with engineering change orders, BOM management, ERP systems, or PDM systems. Basic knowledge of machine guarding and industrial safety standards. Familiarity with packaging machinery is beneficial but should not be required for an Engineer I position.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel small and medium sized components. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and to lift weight or exert force up to 50 pounds. The employee in this position works in an environment where they may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, there is a risk of electrical shock, and there is vibration. The employee may be required to work with toxic or caustic chemicals, may be subject to higher noise levels, or work near moving mechanical parts.
