Position Overview HBC Engineering is seeking an experienced Senior Roadway Design Engineer (P.E.) to join our transportation team. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with strong technical expertise, project management experience, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams. The Senior Roadway Design Engineer will play a key role in the planning, design, permitting, and construction administration of roadway projects while maintaining regular client interaction and contributing to business development initiatives. Depending on project complexity, the selected candidate may serve as Project Manager or Engineer of Record. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage roadway design projects from initiation through construction, including post-design services as required Plan, assign, and supervise professional and technical staff Perform and oversee civil engineering roadway design, including: Roadway geometry and paving Signing and pavement markings Site grading Utility coordination Drainage and stormwater systems Prepare roadway design calculations, technical memoranda, and construction plans Coordinate and prepare permit applications and packages with regulatory agencies, including: Miami-Dade County DERM South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) Broward County Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Support drainage permitting through SFWMD and RER Ensure compliance with local, county, and federal design standards and codes Serve as a primary client contact and clearly communicate technical concepts through written reports and oral presentations Collaborate with senior leadership on business development pursuits and proposal preparation Minimum Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Professional Engineer (P.E.) licence in the county of Florida (required) 10-15 years of roadway design and project management experience as a Project Manager, Engineer of Record, and/or team leader Proficiency with: MicroStation OpenRoads AutoCAD (Civil 3D preferred) MS Office Suite and MS Project Experience with drainage design software such as ICPR, Cascade, HydraCAD, or similar (preferred) Familiarity with coastal resilience and sea-level rise considerations (a plus) Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment Why HBC Engineering 401(k) retirement plan Employer-paid healthcare coverage, including dental and vision Paid holidays and vacation Paid time off for volunteer work Relocation assistance (if applicable) Supportive, family-oriented culture Opportunity to lead and grow within a dynamic, innovative firm
