Role Overview As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will design and implement manufacturing strategies for complex missile assemblies. You will solve technical and organizational challenges, influence product design for manufacturability, and support the transition of new or revised designs into production. This role directly impacts the efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and quality of production while contributing to Lockheed Martin's mission in space innovation and national security. ________________________________________ Key Duties / Responsibilities Develop and implement efficient manufacturing processes, layouts, and procedures for assemblies, equipment installation, machining, painting, and material handling. Interpret drawings and model-based designs, translating them into actionable manufacturing steps using MES and CAD tools. Conduct manufacturing readiness assessments. Create specifications and procedures for tools, fixtures, and manufacturing aides, adapting equipment for production conditions. Ensure new designs are producible, cost-effective, and meet design-for-excellence goals. Identify production risks and drive cost reduction initiatives. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve technical and organizational challenges. Lead team members in implementing engineering changes, process improvements, and team initiatives. Provide on-floor production support, troubleshoot issues to root causes, and implement solutions. Introduce and optimize advanced manufacturing technologies and automation. Communicate directly with government customers and provide design producibility input. Support suppliers and internal teams in manufacturing processes. Develop inspection tools, incorporate quality points into Manufacturing Work Instructions, and ensure processes meet regulatory and customer requirements. Monitor equipment performance to optimize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). Apply statistical process control and data analytics to improve processes. ________________________________________ Work Environment Collaborative and fast-paced team environment. Candidates must meet all of the following: Professional experience as a Manufacturing Engineer with knowledge of manufacturing processes, procedures, process improvement, and strategic planning. Proven ability to improve product manufacturability and lead initiatives such as process improvements, lean practices, or manufacturing technology enhancements. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Experience designing and fabricating tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing aides. Proficiency with 3D modeling software (e.g., CATIA, Creo, SolidWorks, NX), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems (e.g., 3DX, Teamcenter, PDM), and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) (e.g., Apriso, iBASEt, SAP).Desired Skills:
The following skills strengthen a candidate's profile but are not required: Acting as a technical authority for a work center and resolving complex technical issues. Developing and delivering training for a small team of engineers. Collaborating across multiple sites to standardize processes and share best practices. Team facilitation skills and effective use of Lean Six Sigma tools; Green or Black Belt certification is a plus. Experience with digital transformation and automation in manufacturing assembly environments. Broad knowledge of manufacturing processes, including assembly, machining, riveting, and painting. First Unit Flow planning and execution experience. Understanding and application of Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRL). Experience with NC programming (e.g., MasterCAM) and setting up machining centers for production. Familiarity with CREO, DFMPro, SAP, and Apriso. Experience transitioning aerospace products from development into production.Security Clearance Statement:
