EMC has an opening for a Jr. Design Civil Engineer to join our Engineering Department in Augusta, GA. The
JUNIOR DESIGN ENGINEER
works under the general supervision of a Professional Engineer. The Junior Design Engineer will carry out complex technical details, perform inspections and prepare simple designs. This position is the entry level position for professional engineers.
Typical Duties:
Supervises and inspects minor construction and maintenance work on highways, sewers, water mains, storm drains, sidewalks, or other public works projects. Prepares designs for simple engineering projects. Inspects construction materials to ensure they conform to specifications. Makes measurements and obtains design data. Obtains data for computation of quantities. Prepares progress reports. Serves as site inspector on contracted and sub-contracted work. Prepare preliminary and final project cost estimates Assists in the preparation of contract documents, specifications and plans for bidding in public works projects. Performs routine drafting and tracing of sewers, water mains, storm drains and highways or similar types of public works projects. Perform related duties as required Education and/or
Work Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering. EIT Preferred Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate in English with internal and external clients. Able to read and interpret plans and specifications. Able to make engineering design computations and check, design, and prepare engineering plans and studies. Able to perform mathematical computations as applied to engineering problems. Knowledge of the methods and equipment used in construction. Ability to perform designing and drafting assignments. Ability to interpret specification and contract essentials. Working knowledge of CAD and Microsoft Office. Valid Driver's License
- Must be insurable by fleet insurer; driving history will be reviewed by agent and underwriter The ability to work a regular schedule of 7:30 AM
- 5:30 PM Monday through Thursday and 7:30 AM
- 12:00 PM Friday Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
Physical Requirements:
