Senior Design Engineer Position Summary:
Primary responsibilities center around leading projects that result in product creation or enhancement to provide customer focused product solutions. Working with the sales, engineering, supply chain and manufacturing teams, the Senior Design Engineer will be a technical expert to create and maintain new and modified designs, drawings, and product documentation. Additionally, the position will help to coordinate internal engineering efforts across departments and locations to ensure that product solutions meet customer and manufacturing requirements.
Essential Functions:
Update and maintain manufacturing drawings for existing product, based on current standards. Lead projects to achieve final product design per customer specification Provide design input to enhance product features and process improvements Ensure Bills of Material are accurate Supports R&D engineering into translating customer needs into easy to manufacture products Work with manufacturing to ensure that products are being made per the drawings, and that the operators know how to interpret the drawings. Provide design and drawing support for custom or modified-standard products. Assist with product testing and certifications. Provide engineering analysis support for industrial designers. Help with product inspection as needed. Setup and maintain product MRP data. Develop and deliver custom solutions, including advanced technical concepts and applications, to key decision makers to address their business issues and needs. Match SPG products and services to customer's business and technical requirements, and convert them into appropriate solutions. Ensure that customer deliverables are delivered on time, and with the highest quality level. Identify opportunities in terms of sales, marketing, engineering and operations. Identify VA/VE opportunities. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Experience and competency with SolidWorks/ProE, or similar solid modeling software Knowledge of standard drafting practices such as dimensioning, tolerances and weld callouts Excellent communications skills, both written and oral Computer proficiency (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Share Point, etc.) Ability to effectively work with teams Demonstrated Safety Leadership General knowledge of common materials and associated manufacturing processes, including an understanding of how to evaluate material strengths and failure analysis Self-starter who can work in a fast paced environment with multiple projects and changing priorities
Minimum Required Experience or Education:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology 7+ years product design experience - preferably in sheet metal design
