Manufacturing Engineer 1 LOCATION Champaign, IL TYPE Direct Hire SALARY $65,000 - $85,000 / yr ID MI130-2753182 POSTED Mar 11, 2026 Looking for a talented and motivated nano-manufacturing engineer to join our manufacturing team. The engineer will successfully complete manufacturing jobs by mastering the operation of proprietary, high precision rulers designed by the company. This involves and is not limited to setting up the precision diamond tool to make nanometer scale groove shapes, learning and implementing control procedures to ensure the successful outcome of a full-scale grating job and performing quality assurance testing using advanced metrology methods on incoming substrates and completed diffraction gratings. The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:
  • Technical abilities, bachelor's degree preferred in a technical field
  • Learning, running and maintaining complex, high precision instruments
  • Interfacing with a variety of custom and standard software packages that communicate with hardware
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, follow procedures and document progress
  • Experience in writing and communicating technical ideas with strong emphasis on documentation
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and be a team player
  • Established ability to self-manage tasks associated with a larger project with goals, milestones, deliverables and frequent communications with others
  • Strong organizational skills. Must be able to gather additional technical assistance as required.
  • Experience with basic office automation software (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite, Gmail, Dropbox)
  • The ability to work in a cleanroom environment for set up and control instruments remotely from their desk
  • Flexibility to work occasional nights and weekends as required The role will have the following scope:
  • Operate High Precision Rulers
  • Characterize gratings and grating substrates using atomic force microscope (AFM) and Fizeau interferometer
  • Assist with electronic and mechanical fabrication and assembly
  • As needed, assist with tasks such as equipment assembly, product assembly, simple electronics installation and testing
  • Other duties as required
