Job Title:
Manufacturing Engineer V Job Description This senior-level Manufacturing Engineer role focuses on applying advanced engineering theory and principles to optimize industrial layouts and manufacturing production. The position leads efforts to improve efficiency, quality, and throughput by analyzing processes, developing standards, and driving continuous improvement across machining, assembly, fabrication, and related operations. The engineer also collaborates closely with cross-functional teams, including IT, software, and digital product groups, to enhance manufacturing systems and processes. Responsibilities Study time, motion, methods, and speeds in maintenance, production, and other operations to establish standard production rates and improve overall efficiency. Review worker logs, product processing sheets, and specification sheets to verify that records comply with quality assurance specifications. Review and approve work assignments based on worker performance, machine capacity, production schedules, and anticipated delays to ensure balanced and efficient workloads. Analyze charts, graphs, and diagrams to illustrate workflow, routing, floor layouts, material handling, and machine utilization, and use these insights to recommend improvements. Evaluate data and reports to validate adherence to existing standards and identify deviations that require corrective action. Recommend modifications to existing quality or production standards to achieve optimal quality within the limits of equipment capability. Recommend revisions to methods of operation, material handling practices, equipment layout, or other process changes to increase production and improve standards. Create and review sketches and engineering drawings to support process design, layout changes, and equipment modifications. Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports to guide manufacturing decisions and process improvements. Collaborate with IT, software, and digital product teams to enhance manufacturing systems, integrate digital tools, and support data-driven decision-making. Provide leadership and mentoring to team members, offering guidance, support, and constructive performance feedback to build capability within the manufacturing organization. Strong leadership and mentoring skills, including the ability to provide support and constructive performance feedback. Expert ability to create sketches, engineering drawings, and perform common engineering computations. Expert ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports. Previous experience using computer applications and software related to the engineering field, including Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools. Bachelor's degree in engineering. 10+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering. Experience working in manufacturing or production environments such as machining, assembly, or fabrication. Strong understanding of manufacturing systems, equipment behavior, and process flows. Experience collaborating with IT, software, or digital product teams to support manufacturing initiatives. Additional Skills & Qualifications Working knowledge of Agile delivery concepts and practices. Experience with Azure DevOps or similar platforms for managing work, requirements, and project tracking. Comfort working with digital tools and platforms that support manufacturing operations and continuous improvement. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and drive process improvements in a dynamic production environment. Work Environment The role operates within manufacturing and production environments, including machining, assembly, and fabrication settings. The engineer works closely with production teams on the shop floor as well as with technical and digital teams in office or collaborative spaces. The position involves frequent use of engineering software tools such as CAD and platforms like Azure DevOps or similar systems to manage work and support Agile delivery practices. The work environment emphasizes data-driven decision-making, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration to enhance manufacturing systems, equipment performance, and process flows. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Chillicothe, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $58.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
