Job Title:
Additive Manufacturing Technical Lead Job Description As an Additive Manufacturing Technical Lead, you will oversee and execute product development projects that involve the design, development, and improvement of advanced components and processes. You will lead engineering efforts in additive manufacturing (AM), drive the adoption of Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM), and integrate next-generation AM technologies into various programs and internal capability development. Responsibilities Plan, organize, and lead technical projects across product design, development, and improvement. Evaluate engineering alternatives with an understanding of industry trends, leading organizations, and emerging technologies. Serve as the technical lead for AM-focused product development programs. Guide and mentor team members and business unit colleagues on engineering verification and best practices. Apply DfAM and generative design concepts using standard commercial AM and CAD tools. Review designs to ensure manufacturability, structural performance, and process alignment. Provide feedback on CAD, material selection, heat treatment requirements, and post‑processing approaches. Operate and oversee the use of various AM machines, including LPBF and DED, as needed. Manage related post‑processing tools, workflows, and equipment. Interpret engineering documentation, material requirements, and post‑processing specifications. Develop and release SOPs, workflows, and best practices. Work closely with engineering teams, material scientists, and program stakeholders. Identify and drive opportunities to increase adoption of DfAM. Facilitate communication and best‑practice sharing across teams and AM communities. Support the integration of new AM technologies, research findings, and engineering methods. Essential Skills 5+ years of experience in additive manufacturing (AM) or manufacturing technologies. CAD, modeling, and FEA experience (5+ years). Strong knowledge of engineering systems, processes, controls, and quality practices. Experience interpreting CAD drawings, post‑processing requirements, and material specifications.
AM software experience:
simulation, slicing, packing. Experience operating multiple AM machines and post‑processing equipment. Demonstrated leadership in Design Engineering, including AM environments, Programming, Mastercam, Gd&t. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience drafting/releasing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Knowledge of mechanical engineering standards, material specs, or involvement with industry consortiums. Experience with LPBF (Laser Powder Bed Fusion) or DED (Direct Energy Deposition). Bachelor's degree preferred. Experience providing feedback on CAD, material selection, and determining heat treatment conditions. Work Environment This role is set in a fast-paced engineering consulting environment, where you will collaborate with internal engineering teams, material scientists, partner organizations, and AM support communities. The work involves a mix of hands‑on AM machine time, design/analysis, project leadership, and internal/external technical collaboration. The position typically involves supporting classified or sensitive government programs, requiring eligibility for a Secret clearance. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Moline, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $70.00/hr.
