About the Opportunity We're partnering with an established metal manufacturing company in Waukegan, IL, looking for a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer with experience in sheet metal fabrication, SolidWorks, and CNC manufacturing processes. This opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys taking a design and figuring out the best, most efficient way to manufacture it. We're looking for someone who understands both the engineering and production sides of manufacturing. Someone who can work in SolidWorks, develop manufacturing programs, and walk onto the production floor to troubleshoot issues alongside operators. What You'll Be Doing Create and modify parts, assemblies, manufacturing drawings, fixtures, and tooling using SolidWorks. Develop and maintain offline CAM programs for CNC laser cutting and press brake forming equipment. Develop press brake forming processes, including bend sequencing, tooling selection, and setups. Support new product introductions from engineering review through first-piece production. Review customer drawings and CAD models to determine manufacturability. Troubleshoot CNC laser cutting, press brake forming, CAD/CAM, tooling, and dimensional issues. Work directly with production employees to improve manufacturing efficiency, part quality, and repeatability. Design and improve manufacturing fixtures, gauges, and tooling. Develop and maintain manufacturing routings and process information in an ERP system. Identify opportunities to reduce scrap, improve setups, and streamline production processes. What We're Looking For Minimum 2 years of engineering experience in manufacturing or an equivalent field. Proficiency with SolidWorks, including 3D modeling, assemblies, drawings, and sheet metal functions. Hands-on experience with offline CAM programming software for metal fabrication equipment. Experience with press brake forming, bend sequencing, tooling selection, and setups. Working knowledge of CNC laser cutting and sheet metal fabrication. Ability to read engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T. Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting skills. Experience working directly with production teams in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience programming CNC laser cutting equipment. Experience with automated press brake programming or bend simulation. Knowledge of welding, fabricated assemblies, and manufacturing fixtures. Experience with ERP systems, preferably Global Shop. Associate's or bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or equivalent practical experience. Who Would Be a Great Fit? Someone who enjoys being involved in the entire manufacturing process, from the initial design to seeing the finished part come off the production floor. We're looking for someone who understands how metal parts are actually made, enjoys troubleshooting problems, and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves and work alongside the production team. If you have experience with SolidWorks, sheet metal fabrication, CNC laser cutting, or press brake programming, we'd love to hear from you.
