Design Engineering Manager As a Design Engineering Manager, you will provide vision and leadership for existing and emerging product and application technologies by understanding customer and business needs. You will manage a team of engineers and technical staff, leading the product development process from concept to production. Responsibilities Provide technical leadership and expertise to the design team, guiding them in solving complex engineering problems and making design decisions. Analyze and optimize design processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality. Ensure that designs meet quality standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations, implementing quality control measures throughout the design process. Effectively allocate resources such as manpower, materials, and equipment to meet production targets while minimizing waste. Lead and supervise a team of design engineers and technicians, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure smooth operations. Encourage innovation and creativity within the design team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and staying updated on industry trends and emerging technologies. Collaborate with other departments such as manufacturing, quality assurance, marketing, and sales to ensure that design specifications meet the needs of various stakeholders and are feasible for production. Identify potential risks and challenges in the design process and implement strategies to mitigate them, such as conducting thorough design reviews and testing. Collaborate with external suppliers and vendors for components, materials, or services related to design to ensure timely delivery and quality standards are met. Work with the Finance Department to develop and manage budgets for design projects and identify opportunities to reduce costs without compromising on quality or performance. Ensure that design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and technical reports, are accurately maintained and updated, providing regular progress reports to sr. management. Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards. Support the introduction of new products into production, including process validation, capacity planning, and production ramp-up. Manage the entire lifecycle of products from initial design through to end-of-life, including product updates, revisions, and obsolescence management. Manage on-time delivery of designs, drawings, and instructions to support BOM and items released to support production schedule needs. Essential Skills Demonstrated experience in product development, design, manufacturing, or related field with a minimum of 10 years of supervisory experience and project management expertise. High degree of welding experience with sheet metal, weldments, and large assemblies with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the required industries. Experience with ERP systems and use of computer-aided design (CAD) software to create drawings for welding projects (Inventor or Solidworks). Proven leadership with examples of mentoring fellow engineers. Ability to direct and manage multiple concurrent engineering projects. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in mechanical, welding, manufacturing engineering or equivalent. CWI certification is preferred. Knowledge of pressure vessels and non-code vessels is required. 49 CFR compliance knowledge, Visio, and ERP systems are nice to have. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of South Beloit, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $130000.00 - $140000.00/yr. Full time benefits are offered.
