Job Description

Warner Bodies manufactures a wide variety of utility truck bodies, rescue vehicles, and custom truck bodies in Elwood, Indiana. Warner Bodies is seeking a full-time, first shift Design Engineer to join our Engineering team. You will take ownership of custom metal component projects from initial concept through fabrication release. This is a high-ownership, production-facing role that requires a technically rigorous, self-directed individual capable of delivering accurate designs under tight timelines.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
  • Design and develop custom products utilizing sheet metal and structural steel components, including weldments, assemblies, detailed fabrication drawings, and complete bill of materials (BOM) creation.
  • Create accurate and professional sales engineering drawings and submittals for customer review and approval.
  • Provide engineering and manufacturing support by maintaining document control processes, managing revisions, and ensuring drawing accuracy and compliance.
  • Utilize SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM daily for 3D modeling, drawing generation, file management, and workflow coordination.
  • Design and improve manufacturing tools, fixtures, and production equipment to support efficient fabrication and assembly operations.
  • Collaborate with production, manufacturing, and sales teams to ensure designs meet customer requirements, manufacturability standards, and project timelines.
Qualifications include:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering/technical field highly desired; entry-level candidates and 2-year graduates with strong technical aptitude will also be considered.
  • Experience with SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM preferred.
  • 3-5 years of relevant engineering or design experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Self-motivated individual with a willingness to learn Warner standard sheet metal fabrication and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills with a proactive work ethic.
  • Knowledge of service body design and manufacturing is a plus.
  • Experience or familiarity with metal fabrication, welding processes, and manufacturing methods is highly desirable.
Salary commensurate with education and experience.
