Mechanical (Manufacturing) Engineer - Electric Vehicle Inverter Production Job Description This role supports electric vehicle inverter manufacturing programs within a regional Product Engineering group. The Mechanical (Manufacturing) Engineer establishes and supports manufacturing equipment and processes, develops quotations, and ensures that all equipment meets product and customer requirements. The position focuses on equipment verification, manufacturing process development, and qualification for mass production while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to achieve safe, stable, and efficient operations. Responsibilities Evaluate inverter products, manufacturing processes, and production equipment to ensure they meet performance, quality, and customer requirements (approximately 40% of the role). Develop manufacturing technology, resources, and production readiness plans to support new and existing programs (approximately 30% of the role). Support new business evaluations by assessing manufacturing feasibility, equipment needs, and process capability (approximately 20% of the role). Resolve mass production equipment issues by diagnosing root causes and implementing corrective actions to maintain stable operations (approximately 5% of the role). Design, specify, install, and validate mechanical production equipment in coordination with Manufacturing Process Engineers and equipment integrators. Lead or support equipment startup, commissioning, ramp-up, and in-process performance validation on production lines. Troubleshoot mechanical equipment and conveyor systems to ensure stable, safe, and efficient operation. Ensure all equipment meets design specifications, safety standards, and operator protection requirements. Prepare clear documentation and reports, and communicate technical findings and recommendations to management and cross-functional teams. Maintain functional knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, and procedures to support continuous improvement initiatives. Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and other stakeholders, to support successful program launches and ongoing production. Participate in continuous improvement and process improvement activities, including equipment validation, commissioning, and documentation updates. Perform other related duties as assigned to support the overall success of the manufacturing organization. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience. 5-7 years of hands-on manufacturing equipment support experience. At least 2 years of experience designing, specifying, installing, and validating mechanical production equipment in coordination with Manufacturing Process Engineers and equipment integrators. At least 2 years of experience leading or supporting equipment startup, commissioning, ramp-up, and in-process performance validation on production lines. At least 2 years of experience troubleshooting mechanical equipment and conveyor systems to ensure stable, safe, and efficient operation. At least 2 years of experience ensuring equipment meets design specifications, safety standards, and operator protection requirements. Experience in manufacturing engineering with a focus on production equipment and processes. Proficiency in equipment validation, commissioning, and documentation of manufacturing processes and equipment. Experience with equipment design, manufacturing processes, and equipment installation in a production environment. Ability to follow and implement safety procedures and standards in a manufacturing setting. Experience working with cross-functional teams in a production or engineering environment. Experience with conveyor systems and basic understanding of PLCs in relation to manufacturing equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail and accuracy. Effective decision-making skills with the ability to exercise sound business judgment. Ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization and work well in a team-oriented environment. Capability to prepare clear, concise reports and communicate technical findings to management and stakeholders. Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and process optimization. Familiarity with continuous improvement and process improvement methodologies. Experience working with Tier 1 automotive or high-volume manufacturing environments is beneficial. Comfort working with manufacturing process documentation and validation records. Work Environment The role is based in a large, growing manufacturing facility in Greenfield, Indiana that is undergoing significant expansion due to new business in electric vehicle programs. The position involves a blend of time on the manufacturing floor, in an open office environment, and in meetings both in person and virtual. Manufacturing floor exposure includes typical production noise and interaction with mechanical equipment, conveyor systems, and automated processes. The work involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams in a Tier 1 automotive supply environment that supports major original equipment manufacturers. Travel requirements are minimal, and any travel is expected to be regional. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Greenfield, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $52.88/hr.
