Job Summary :
The Cable Design Engineer II designs, develops, and improves cable and harness products to support new product development and sustainment of existing product lines. This role evaluates technical requirements, develops design solutions, and ensures products meet performance, reliability, and quality standards. The Cable Design Engineer II applies sound engineering principles to recommend reliable, efficient, and cost-effective design approaches throughout the product development lifecycle. This position supports design feasibility analysis, prototyping, design verification, and validation activities. The Cable Design Engineer II collaborates with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and program management to resolve technical issues, optimize product performance, and ensure successful product introduction. The Cable Design Engineer II contributes to multiple engineering projects simultaneously, supports continuous product improvement initiatives, and ensures project milestones are achieved in accordance with established timelines. This role operates with moderate supervision while exercising independent judgment in the execution of engineering tasks and technical problem solving.
Essential Functions :
Review cable drawings, generating 3D CAD, and design of cable assemblies and over-mold tooling Generate BOM's and standard routings Assist in first time build cable development. Complete design, development, and release to production interconnect solutions for connector and cable assembly products. Develop tooling designs to support manufacturing of thermoplastic injection molded and over-molded components. Review and approve first time build cable assemblies, and support manufacturing to resolve cable design issues. Interface with customers and provide product design proposals, material solutions, and generate quotations. Assist in manufacturing, engineering, and materials as required. Additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
B.S. Mechanical Engineering OR Electrical Engineering Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and customer product qualification requirements. Capable of 3D modeling and drafting engineering drawings. Computer literacy with MS Office and design software (PTC Creo, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD) Excellent communication skills
Required Skills/Qualifications:
IPC/WHMA-A-620
Cable and Wire Harness Assembly Program management, cable design, and injection molding expertise. Familiar with military products, components, and qualifications Understanding of how to generate product parts list and labor standardization.
Required Experience:
2-4 years of related experience Physical Requirements (Select all that apply): Sedentary work primality involving sitting/standing Light work including moving objects up to 20 lbs. Operating machinery or power tools Use of ladders and/or stairs Sitting or standing for long periods of time Repetitive movement of hands, wrists, or fingers
