As a Controls Engineer, you will drive the creation, execution, and ongoing refinement of automation and control frameworks within our high-volume automotive interior production facility. Your expertise in system optimization, advanced programming, and troubleshooting will be vital to maintaining manufacturing excellence, ensuring equipment reliability, and upholding safety standards. Automation and Controls Engineering Create, program, and diagnose PLC and HMI systems, with a focus on Allen-Bradley hardware like SLC 500, MicroLogix, CompactLogix, and PanelView. Manage and assist with industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, DH+, DH-485, and RS-232. Incorporate and maintain sophisticated manufacturing tools, including vision systems, robotics, servo drives, and MES connectivity. Update and preserve electrical documentation using AutoCAD software. Production and Equipment Support Provide direct technical assistance to operations and maintenance staff to boost equipment uptime and enhance overall performance. Identify and resolve electrical and controls issues, covering AC/DC systems, various sensors, and industrial networking. Oversee the installation and commissioning of new machinery to ensure all systems meet plant specifications and safety requirements. Continuous Improvement Lead and contribute to initiatives aimed at process optimization. Research and deploy innovative technologies to help elevate manufacturing efficiency and product quality for the entire team. Project and Launch Support Engage in equipment bidding, design evaluations, and vendor selection to secure cost-effective and standardized technical solutions. Assist with new product and equipment rollouts, ensuring operational readiness and strict adherence to safety protocols. Coordinate various projects and shifting priorities within a fast-paced production setting. Training and Documentation Educate maintenance and production staff on new technologies and effective troubleshooting methods to improve team capabilities. Develop and maintain comprehensive plant-wide controls documentation and standards. Organize and oversee the inventory of electrical spare parts. Demonstrate proficiency with AC power systems ranging from 480VAC 30 to 110VAC and 24 VDC control circuits. Qualifications and Experience Background in Tier 1 automotive interior manufacturing is highly desirable. Bachelor degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline is preferred. At least 5 years of professional experience in controls engineering within a manufacturing setting. Proven track record with fully automated assembly systems that utilize Poka-Yoke and MES. Demonstrated success in integrating new automation solutions into active production lines. Hands-on experience with automated assembly; familiarity with injection molding is a significant advantage. Technical Expertise Advanced proficiency in HMI development and PLC programming. Practical understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Experience with industrial automation components. Strong capabilities in electrical troubleshooting across complex systems. Additional Skills Ability to effectively handle multiple projects and competing priorities. Experience conducting equipment validation and machine buyoff processes. Strong interpersonal skills to foster collaboration across all departments.
