We serve OEM machine builders, automotive suppliers, system integrators, and industrial manufacturers throughout Michigan. As our company continues to expand beyond traditional distribution and into engineered solutions, automation systems, modular framing systems, and custom assemblies, we are seeking an Industrial Automation Engineer to join our growing team. This position is ideal for a mechanically inclined engineer, technician, or automation professional who enjoys solving real-world manufacturing problems and working directly with customers. Position Summary The Industrial Automation Engineer will support customers and sales personnel by identifying, developing, and implementing automation and fluid power solutions. This role combines engineering, application support, project development, and customer interaction. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced sales professionals and engineers while developing the technical and commercial skills necessary to become a trusted advisor to manufacturing customers. Responsibilities Evaluate customer applications and manufacturing challenges Assist with pneumatic, vacuum, motion control, and automation system design Develop concepts, layouts, and recommendations for machine improvements Create bills of material and support quotation development Work with customers, vendors, and internal teams to identify optimal solutions Participate in customer visits and plant walkthroughs Assist with aluminum framing systems, machine guarding, workstations, and automation projects Support product demonstrations and technical presentations Coordinate project requirements with engineering, purchasing, and production teams Learn product offerings and industry applications through structured training Document applications, project opportunities, and technical recommendations Preferred Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Technology, Automation, or related field OR equivalent industrial experience in maintenance, controls, automation, machine building, or manufacturing engineering Preferred Skills Experience with one or more of the following: Pneumatics and fluid power systems Industrial automation Manufacturing equipment CAD software Machine design Sensors and controls PLC fundamentals Robotics Vacuum systems Lean manufacturing Industrial troubleshooting What We Offer Competitive salary Profit Sharing Health benefits Paid vacation and holidays Retirement program Technical training and manufacturer certification opportunities Career growth into advanced engineering, project management, solutions development, or sales leadership positions Opportunity to work on diverse manufacturing projects across many industries Why Join Flotronics?
