Job Description

Miller Industries - Design Engineering Supervisor - Fenton, Michigan Position Summary Miller Industries is seeking a Design Engineering Supervisor to support projects focused on the design and development of modular enclosure systems. This role will oversee structural and sheet metal design, fabrication and welding considerations, and assembly integration, ensuring high-quality, standards-compliant engineering deliverables. The ideal candidate combines strong technical design expertise with leadership capability, effectively guiding internal teams and external design partners while driving projects from concept through production. Key Responsibilities Support a team of mechanical designers specializing in: Structural design Sheet metal components Fabrication and welding processes Assembly of modular enclosures Translate engineering requirements, specifications, and concepts into detailed: 3D models 2D drawings and layouts Utilize industry-standard CAD tools, including: SolidWorks AutoCAD Revit Ensure all designs comply with applicable industry codes, standards, and best practices Review and approve engineering drawings, models, and documentation for accuracy, manufacturability, and quality Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and project management teams to ensure successful project execution Manage and coordinate work with third-party design contractors, ensuring alignment with project scope, timelines, and quality expectations Provide technical guidance on fabrication methods, welding practices, and assembly processes Drive continuous improvement in design processes, tools, and documentation standards Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience) 5+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering Proven experience designing structural and sheet metal systems, preferably for fabricated or modular products Prior experience in a leadership or supervisory role is strongly preferred Proficiency in: SolidWorks AutoCAD Revit Strong understanding of fabrication processes, welding methods, and assembly techniques Knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., structural, safety, and manufacturing standards) Experience managing or collaborating with third-party engineering/design contractors Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail Excellent communication and organizational skills Preferred Attributes Hands-on experience transitioning designs from concept to production Familiarity with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Demonstrated leadership skills with a collaborative and results-driven approach
