Job Description The Automation Control Engineer focuses on the controls of the system while collaborating with mechanical, vision, and validation teams. The automation team designs and develops systems for manufacturing products, improving current manufacturing processes, and supporting new product development. Responsibilities Collaborate with the automation team to determine project direction. Provide designs that ensure operator safety. Collaborate on the design, assembly, and testing of fixtures, robotic cells, and end-of-arm tooling. Design schematic and electrical panel layouts. Troubleshoot and improve existing equipment when necessary. Perform research, analysis, design, and development of lean manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods, and production equipment for new and existing projects. Support Manufacturing and Production staff to solve technical, quality, and production problems to ensure consistent product flow. Make recommendations to staff and/or managers to improve production processes. Design electrical and pneumatic circuits ensuring operator safety. Create electrical and pneumatic component bill of materials. Support wiring electrical panels and equipment, and plumbing pneumatic circuits and equipment. Troubleshoot and improve existing equipment's control system. Program PLCs, HMIs, Robots, as well as SCADA and vision systems. Use SolidWorks to design 3D models and create 2D drawings when necessary. Use Visio to design electrical and pneumatic schematics. Use an ERP system to enter hours and requisitions, and complete repair requests. Use Microsoft Office for project documentation. Create Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs), Product Specific Operating Procedures (PSOPs), and standard training documents. Train personnel on SOPs and PSOPs. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in engineering or technical degree in engineering with 3 years of related experience. 10 years of experience in Robotics and Automated Equipment. PLC programming. Pneumatic and electrical schematic reading and creation. Pneumatic valve and cylinder sizing. Experience with SolidWorks, plumbing, and wiring. Programming experience with Omron, Denso, ABB, InduSoft, IMPACT, Cognex. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with automation, PLC programming, controls engineering, and troubleshooting. Experience with electrical design using Visio and AutoCAD Electrical. Experience in manufacturing, robotics, and mechanical design. Work Environment This position supports in-house projects for various sites, designing and programming new equipment and supporting existing equipment. The majority of the time will be spent at a desk, with occasional visits to the floor to troubleshoot existing machines. This is an onsite position with minimal travel required, approximately 5-10%. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Delano, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $125000.00/yr.
