Job Title:
Project Engineer Job Description The Project Engineer is responsible for the technical execution and coordination of pneumatic conveying, material handling, and dust collection system projects from order receipt through commissioning and project closeout. Working as part of a Project Management and Automation team, this role serves as the primary engineering resource for assigned projects, collaborating closely with customers, vendors, manufacturing, automation, and installation teams to ensure successful project delivery. Projects range from standalone systems to larger turnkey installations, and the Project Engineer may provide technical direction and task assignments to Project Design Engineers and other team members while supporting project scope, schedule, and quality objectives. Responsibilities Execute projects from order receipt through design, customer approval, manufacturing, delivery, commissioning, and customer turnover. Coordinate project activities with project managers, customers, vendors, manufacturing, automation, and installation teams to maintain alignment on scope, schedule, and deliverables. Serve as a primary or secondary customer contact throughout project execution, ensuring clear communication and responsive support. Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs) with appropriate equipment tagging and process information to define system operation. Create and maintain piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) to accurately represent system controls and interconnections. Review, define, and specify OEM-manufactured and vendor-supplied equipment to meet project and customer requirements. Coordinate with manufacturing engineers and suppliers to obtain, review, and approve equipment drawings and technical documentation. Generate preliminary equipment stack-up drawings and detailed system layout drawings to support design, fabrication, and installation. Review engineering deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project specifications and standards. Maintain project drawing packages, document control, and engineering records throughout the project lifecycle. Monitor engineering deliverables and provide schedule updates to project managers and customers, highlighting progress and any potential impacts. Identify project risks, technical issues, and potential schedule impacts, and proactively support resolution efforts. Coordinate with suppliers, installation contractors, and field service resources to support successful installation and startup. Support the development and administration of installation subcontract documentation and related technical requirements. Participate in customer design reviews and approval meetings, presenting technical content and incorporating feedback. Support change order development and project documentation updates as required by evolving scope or customer requests. Conduct site visits, equipment inspections, commissioning activities, startup support, and troubleshooting for assigned projects. Assist with warranty support and resolution activities following project completion to ensure customer satisfaction. Essential Skills Background in mechanical engineering or a closely related technical discipline with experience in industrial equipment and systems. Hands-on experience with pneumatic conveying, material handling, or dust collection systems, or similar industrial process equipment. Proficiency with AutoCAD for creating and modifying engineering drawings and layouts. Experience with project planning and execution in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Strong mechanical troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Ability to interpret customer specifications, contracts, and technical documentation accurately. Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering fundamentals applicable to industrial systems. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for documentation, reporting, and communication. Ability to effectively interact and communicate with customers, vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously while maintaining organization and focus. Strong attention to detail and adherence to document control practices. Ability to lead technical aspects of projects, make sound decisions, and maintain project organization. Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional project environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Experience with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software in addition to AutoCAD. Experience working with industrial equipment, manufacturing processes, and commissioning activities. Demonstrated project coordination and organizational skills in a technical or engineering setting. Strong communication skills for participating in customer design reviews and approval meetings. Interest in developing a career in project engineering within industrial systems, with openness to learning and growth opportunities. Work Environment This role splits time between an office environment (approximately 50%) and a manufacturing environment (approximately 50%), providing exposure to both engineering design and hands-on project execution. The position involves collaboration with cross-functional teams and external partners, and may require up to 25% travel for site visits, equipment inspections, commissioning, startup support, and troubleshooting. The manufacturing environment includes typical industrial conditions around production equipment and systems, while the office environment supports design work, documentation, and coordination activities. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kansas City, MO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $100000.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
