Job Description
Controls/Automation EngineerPosition OverviewWe are seeking a Controls/Automation Engineer to design, implement, and commission control systems for manufacturing equipment, with a focus on optical and fiber production. The role will develop PLC and HMI solutions, integrate motion and servo systems, perform factory and site commissioning, and ensure control systems meet ISO and industry standards. The ideal candidate combines hands-on programming and troubleshooting skills with experience in Rockwell/AllenBradley, Schneider, or Siemens platforms and common industrial networks and protocols.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, program and commission PLC and HMI solutions for manufacturing equipment using Rockwell/AllenBradley, Schneider, or Siemens platforms.
Develop control strategies and implement code using IEC programming languages (ladder logic, structured text) to meet process requirements.
Integrate and configure industrial communication networks and protocols including Profibus, Ethernet, Modbus and industrial Ethernet variants.
Specify, configure and tune servo drives, motion controllers and related I/O for synchronous and coordinated motion applications.
Lead factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT) and field commissioning activities; perform troubleshooting and issue resolution during installation and start-up.
Create and maintain clear control system documentation including functional specifications, electrical schematics, I/O lists, test procedures, and commissioning reports.
Work with mechanical, process, quality and production teams to ensure control solutions meet manufacturing, safety and ISO quality system requirements.
Support continuous improvement initiatives by diagnosing process bottlenecks and implementing automation solutions to increase yield, reliability and throughput.
Provide training and handover materials for operations and maintenance teams; support long-term service and upgrades of control systems.
QualificationsBachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Automation, Mechatronics or equivalent experience.3+ years of experience as a Controls or Automation Engineer in a manufacturing environment; experience in optical or fiber manufacturing strongly preferred.
Proven hands on programming experience with PLC and HMI platforms (Rockwell/AllenBradley, Schneider, Siemens).Strong knowledge of IEC programming languages (ladder logic, structured text) and control system architecture.
Experience with industrial communications and protocols such as Profibus, Ethernet, Modbus and TCP/IP.Practical experience with servo drives, motion controllers and coordinated motion applications.
Familiarity with ISO quality systems and working to documented procedures and traceability requirements.
