Job Description

Role Overview As a Screw Machine Engineer, you will act as the primary technical authority for optimizing and managing manufacturing workflows related to Davenport and Acme-Gridley multi-spindle automatic screw machines. Your core focus involves engineering robust tooling solutions, resolving intricate machining challenges, and spearheading continuous improvement projects to elevate equipment efficiency and support the launch of new products. By collaborating across departments such as Quality, Production, Tooling, and Maintenance, you will help foster a manufacturing environment that prioritizes safety, cost-efficiency, and high-quality output while meeting all client requirements. Key Responsibilities Create and refine manufacturing procedures for both current and incoming product lines. Maximize operational output by calculating ideal cutting speeds, feed rates, cycle times, and machining sequences. Engineer comprehensive tooling layouts, cam designs, and machine configurations specifically for Davenport and Acme-Gridley equipment. Generate formal process instructions and standardized setup documentation to ensure consistency. Execute complex machine setups and verify the successful launch of new production runs. Enhance existing machine configurations to boost overall equipment utilization, throughput, and quality. Deliver expert-level technical support to resolve difficult issues involving tooling, processes, and machining. Provide hands-on assistance to the production team during critical manufacturing milestones and machine startups. Drive projects aimed at lowering scrap rates, minimizing downtime, and reducing overall tooling expenses. Lead strategic efforts to decrease setup times and cycle durations to improve total plant productivity. Guarantee that all manufacturing outputs strictly adhere to established quality standards and client specifications. Conduct initial inspections and assist in identifying root causes for quality-related issues to help maintain high standards for the entire team. Additional Duties Engage in cost-reduction projects and Kaizen events to improve operational efficiency. Assist in the execution of preventive and corrective action plans. Offer engineering expertise during new product introductions, facility audits, and client visits. Be available for occasional weekend or overtime shifts to accommodate production needs or equipment installation projects. Complete various other tasks as directed by management. Uphold and enforce all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) safety protocols to ensure a secure environment for all personnel. Required Qualifications A degree in manufacturing or mechanical engineering is highly desirable. Between 8 and 10 years of practical experience in engineering, operating, and setting up Acme-Gridley and Davenport screw machines. Demonstrated ability to drive process improvement initiatives. Advanced capability in interpreting blueprints and a deep knowledge of mechanical gearing, cams, and gears. Expertise in setting and grinding various tools, including cutoffs, drills, shave tools, and form tools. Strong grasp of shop math, including metric conversions, fractions, and decimals. Competence in using SolidWorks or comparable design software to document electro-mechanical system layouts.
