Job Description
Key ResponsibilitiesLead mechanical design and product development for food processing machinery, from concept through production release.
Create detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings in SolidWorks, including assemblies, BOMs, and revision documentation.
Apply Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles to optimize cost, manufacturability, and serviceability.
Work closely with shop floor teams, machine shops, and fabricators to support machining, welding, and metal fabrication activities and resolve production issues.
Develop and oversee prototyping, testing, and validation plans; iterate designs based on test results and field feedback.
Specify materials, fasteners, finishes, and welding processes appropriate for industrial and sanitary food-processing environments.
Ensure designs comply with applicable food safety, sanitary design, and industry standards; support regulatory and QA documentation.
Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to source components, secure quotes, and evaluate manufacturability of purchased parts.
Mentor and review work of junior engineers and designers; provide technical leadership and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Manage project timelines, risk assessments, cost estimates, and change control in cross-functional projects.
QualificationsBachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; MS preferred.5+ years of mechanical design experience, with a minimum of 3 years in food processing equipment or related industrial machinery.
Expert proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling, assemblies, and drawing production.
Hands-on experience with machining processes, welding techniques, and metal fabrication practices.
Proven experience designing for industrial and sanitary food-processing environments, including knowledge of applicable standards and hygienic design principles.
Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and specifications for manufacturing.
Experience with prototyping, test planning, and resolving production issues on the shop floor.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor junior staff.
Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines.
Willingness to occasionally travel to supplier sites and manufacturing facilities.
Preferred:
experience with ERP/PDM systems, familiarity withHACCP/FDA
guidelines, and certifications in welding inspection or SolidWorks.Similar remote jobs
