Job Description

Job Overview:
The Manufacturing Engineer plays a central role in optimizing production processes for modular ambulance bodies, ensuring safety, quality and efficiency across fabrication, assembly and finishing operations. This position supports engineering, production and quality teams to deliver compliant, durable and high-performance emergency vehicles.
Responsibilities:
Process Engineering & Optimization Develop, document, and improve manufacturing processes for aluminum/steel modular body fabrication, electrical integration, interior cabinetry, and final assembly. Production Support Provide daily technical support to welders, fabricators, assemblers, and electricians on the shop floor. Troubleshoot manufacturing issues related to structural components, wiring harness routing, HVAC installation, and interior module fitment. Collaborate with design engineering to resolve manufacture ability concerns (DFM/DFA). Quality & Compliance Ensure manufacturing processes meet industry standards such as KKK‑A‑1822F, NFPA 1917, AMD Standards, and internal quality requirements. Develop inspection criteria and quality checkpoints for structural welds, electrical systems, and modular body alignment. Lead root‑cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action implementation for defects or field failures. Documentation & Standards Create and maintain work instructions, SOPs, process flow diagrams, and production documentation. Maintain accurate BOMs and routings in ERP/MRP systems. Support engineering change orders (ECOs) and continuous improvement initiatives. Project & Cross‑Functional Collaboration Work closely with R&D, design engineering, supply chain, and production leadership to introduce new ambulance models or product updates. Participate in prototype builds and pilot runs to validate manufacture ability and process capability. Coordinate with vendors on material specifications, fabrication tolerances, and component quality. Safety & Ergonomics Conduct safety assessments and implement ergonomic improvements in welding, cutting, assembly, and electrical installation areas. Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety policies.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field. Experience in fabrication, automotive, specialty vehicle, or modular body manufacturing. Strong understanding of welding processes (MIG/TIG), sheet metal fabrication, CNC cutting, and assembly operations. Strong understanding of cabinetry build processes Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar). Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, wiring diagrams, and assembly schematics.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in emergency vehicle manufacturing (ambulances, fire apparatus, rescue vehicles). Familiarity with NFPA, KKK, and AMD standards. ERP/MRP system experience (e.g., Epicor, SAP). Hands‑on experience designing fixtures or production tooling.
