Work Schedule Standard (Mon-Fri) Environmental Conditions Office, Some degree of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs etc.) Job Description Job Description The Engineer III, Manufacturing Engineering, at Thermo Fisher Scientific will play a crucial role in enhancing production processes and systems within the LCD (Lab Chemical Division). This role will collaborate with equipment engineering, safety, quality, and production to develop and drive process optimization, increased productivity, and cost reduction initiatives Key Responsibilities Provide day-to-day technical support to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient manufacturing operations. Troubleshoot complex process issues with production teams to minimize downtime and improve stability. Design and implement robust manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency, quality, and scalability. Collaborate cross-functionally (operations, maintenance, engineering) to analyze data and drive continuous improvement. Develop and maintain SOPs, work instructions, and process control strategies to ensure consistency and regulatory compliance. Apply Process Safety Management (PSM) principles and lead/participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) (e.g., HAZOP) to identify and mitigate risks. Lead and support capital projects (CapEx) from scope definition through execution (URS, design, vendor selection, FAT/SAT, IQ/OQ/PQ). Build business cases and ROI analyses to justify capital investments aligned with site and network strategy. Manage project timelines, budgets, and risks, ensuring alignment with governance and stakeholder expectations. Support equipment specification, procurement, installation, and qualification to ensure reliability and scalability. Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective/preventive actions (CAPA). Drive automation and data-driven solutions to improve efficiency and product quality. Apply Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to reduce waste, improve flow, and lower costs. Communicate performance, risks, and project updates clearly to leadership and stakeholders.
Requirements Education:
Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
Experience:
7+ years in chemical, pharmaceutical, or regulated manufacturing environments. Strong experience with CapEx project execution and lifecycle management. Hands-on experience with PSM programs and PHA methodologies (e.g., HAZOP, What-If). Proficiency in statistical/data analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, JMP). Solid background in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma with demonstrated impact. Strong problem-solving skills with expertise in root cause analysis and CAPA. Effective communicator with ability to translate technical concepts across functions. Proven ability to lead projects, influence stakeholders, and manage competing priorities. Strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Environmental Conditions Exposure to manufacturing environments (noise, machinery), office settings, and warehouse conditions. Use of PPE required (safety glasses, gloves, lab coat, etc.). May involve varying environmental conditions depending on site operations. Compensation and Benefits The salary range estimated for this position based in New Jersey is $91,700.00-$135,000.00. This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
