• Experienced (Non-Manager) Full Time, Temporary Manufacturing - Other On-site Engineering High School or equivalent First Shift (Day) Apply Now Applied Job details Manufacturing Engineer (Horseheads, NY) Position Summary The Manufacturing/Production Engineer supports engineering projects and the successful launch of new products by developing, implementing, validating, and optimizing machining and related manufacturing processes.

This role provides technical support to production, assists with process problem-solving and continuous improvement, and collaborates with Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Quality Assurance, Finance, Product Development, vendors, and other cross-functional teams. The position focuses on bringing new machined components into production efficiently while meeting quality, cost, schedule, safety, and customer requirements. Role is a a fully-benefited Contract to Hire First Shift role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Participate in engineering projects by developing and executing project plans and schedules while supporting established goals and objectives. Assist with project cost tracking, status reporting, meetings, documentation, and communication of project progress to management. Collaborate with engineering teams to review new product designs and provide input regarding manufacturability, machining capabilities, tooling, inspection, and production requirements. Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, including process development, prototype and low-volume production runs, process transfer, and transition to sustained production. Develop and document machining processes, including: Fixture and tooling requirements, Tool selection, Machining parameters, Setup instructions, Inspection criteria & manufacturing and inspection procedures. Provide day-to-day technical support and direction to production operations, including turning, milling, drilling, EDM, finishing, packaging, and other manufacturing processes as required. Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues involving machining processes, tooling, fixtures, equipment, and manufacturing methods. Participate in investigations and develop and execute action plans to address process problems, including: Nonconformances (NCs), Customer complaints, Audit observations and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA). Execute engineering studies, process validation protocols, and summary reports, including Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), Performance Qualification (PQ), Computer Software Validation (CSV), and Test Method Validation (TMV), as applicable. Collect and analyze process data to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, cost, quality, and production performance. Identify and assist with process improvements using appropriate engineering principles, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other standard improvement strategies. Assist with gage design, measurement system analysis, gage implementation, and inspection method development. Use a variety of measurement and testing equipment, including calipers, micrometers, comparators, tensile testers, and coordinate measuring systems. Assist in the development of fixtures and the design of tools, communicating and implementing ideas with tool designers and vendors. Support new equipment acquisition activities, including: User Requirement Specifications (URS), Equipment and machine selection, Installation, Validation, Employee training, and equipment maintenance and related documentation. Maintain and calibrate machining equipment and associated tools, as required, to support performance, accuracy, and process reliability. Work closely with production teams to transfer newly developed machining processes from NPI into sustained production. Provide training and technical support to production personnel during process implementation and transition activities. Act as a liaison with vendors regarding contracted products, tools, fixtures, equipment, and their manufacture. Participate in cross-functional teams involving Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Quality Assurance, Finance, Product Development, and other relevant departments. Follow all safety protocols, quality standards, company procedures, and operational requirements. Participate in continuous improvement and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.

Qualifications:

Associate degree in Manufacturing Technology, Machining Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience may be considered. Minimun three to five years of experience in a machining or manufacturing environment, with demonstrated experience in machine setup, operation, process troubleshooting, and production support. Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) activities in a manufacturing environment. Experience setting up and operating machine tools, including mills, lathes, and related machining equipment. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T. Experience with metrology tools and inspection techniques, including calipers, micrometers, comparators, and related measurement equipment preferred. Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) experience is preferred. Strong troubleshooting, analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and documentation skills. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a cross-functional team. Ability to communicate effectively with engineering, production, quality, vendors, and management. Knowledge of machining processes, tooling, fixtures, machining parameters, and inspection methods. Understanding of process validation, measurement system analysis, and manufacturing documentation. Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles. Experience supporting equipment installation, qualification, validation, and employee training. Ability to identify process risks and implement practical solutions that improve quality, cost, delivery, and efficiency.
