We are looking for an individual with strong CAD skills (including surfacing) and relevant work experience in the manufacturing of tools and molds. Our main focus is on composite tooling, but general tool design experience will work. Our engineers see most of their projects through from the very beginning to shipping products out the door. Please note, there are few businesses in the world who do what we do, training will be provided on all the specifics of our Additive Manufacturing design process. An experienced tool designer should be able to hit the ground fast with relative ease. Duties Design tools and molds from solid or surface files in 3D CAD. Prepare design files for printing (slicing). Create estimates and project quotes/proposals. Project & Program management- see your projects through from start to finish. Interface with customers, suppliers, and co-workers for the successful completion of each project. Follow and improve internal quality management systems. Assemble molds - assist with applying adhesives, designing mechanical bonding strategies, installing inserts, vacuum ports and lines, etc. Conduct quality assurance - checking vacuum integrity, laser scanning (sometimes performed off-site). Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field. Proficiency in CAD surfacing and parametric modeling (CATIA and Autodesk Inventor). Experience in the manufacturing of tools and molds. Metrology/quality experience (laser scanning, probing, GD&T). General composite knowledge (tooling, vacuum bagging, materials/resins, etc.). Problem solving skills to analyze problems and develop effective solutions. Cross-functional collaboration skills to communicate with machinists, quality, engineers and managers. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Work Environment Combination of office (75%), manufacturing floor assistance (20%), and potential customer visits, trade shows, and conferences (5%).
