JOB SUMMARY
Design Engineers work in teams that develop or redesign new or existing company products. They are capable of working independently, working on longer term projects under supervision, conducting testing, troubleshooting, and collaborating with technical or non-technical colleagues through project execution as needed. The individual in this role will interact with all phases of the New Product Development (NPD) lifecycle including up front CAD Modeling and design definition, supporting production builds, creating BOM's and drawings, as well as supporting new products in the field with technical support as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following: Design company products using SolidWorks or other engineering software Create engineering drawings for use in proposals and manufacturing Create bills of material and routings for use in cost estimates and manufacturing Create and/or guide other technical team members in authoring owner's manuals, test procedures, and other engineering deliverables as required Perform engineering computations and analysis for sizing equipment components Interacts with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to execute timely NPD objectives that meet business objectives Ensures accuracy and completeness of engineering deliverables from self and other technical peers Provides support to manufacturing on new products, especially in the areas of BOMs, Routings, design updates, and technical production questions Other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This role has no direct reporting responsibilities Able to provide basic technical leadership in guiding cross functional peers through portions of the NPD process
TRAVEL DEMANDS
This position may require occasional travel to customer sites, often with little notice, including weekends and holidays in some cases.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Strong verbal and written communication skills Hands on and unafraid to dive into problem solving in many different environments Working knowledge of manufacturing and engineering fundamentals CAD proficiency is required, mastery is preferred Working knowledge of ERPs (SyteLine is preferred) as well as PLM or PDM Systems Basic knowledge of electrical controls, controls hardware, operation, and controls configuration Working knowledge of power transmission systems including drives, pulleys, belts, motor specification, gearboxes and more, mastery is preferred Ability to perform fundamental engineering calculations employing software or by hand Familiarity with conveyors and material handling systems is preferred but not a requirement Ability to maintain positive and professional working relationships with all staff at all levels/functions of organization Successful completion of 90-day probationary period
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Four-year degree in a relevant engineering field, preferably mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing, Master's degree preferred. 0-5 years' experience in an applicable engineering field Proficiency in modern manufacturing methods and processes Ability to read and interpret mechanical/electrical schematics and customer specifications. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers using English. Excellent math skills are required. Individuals in this position must be able to perform engineering calculations employing algebra, geometry, and trigonometry as required. Proficient with 3D CAD Software, SolidWorks, or 3DInventor Proficient with 2D AutoCAD Proficient in Microsoft Office products, especially Excel and Outlook
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer with frequent interaction in a manufacturing environment. Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds at times.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is pleasant, temperature controlled, professional office environment in a manufacturing setting. The employee works in an office setting but does have frequent interaction with the shop floor. On the shop floor, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is mixed and the air temperature fluctuates with the seasonal weather.
