Job Description

Founded in 1955, Piasecki Aircraft Corporation (PiAC) is a research and development business specializing in design, fabrication and flight testing of experimental rotorcraft and unmanned air vehicles. Piasecki has developed and flown more than 25 different advanced VTOL and UAV aircraft and continues to develop cutting-edge vertical flight technologies.
SUMMARY:
The Piasecki Aircraft Corporation Engineer Design Lead works to generate novel aerospace grade design solutions, mechanical aerostructure concepts, and definition for analysis and build; performs engineering duties in the development of 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) designs of aerostructures, placement of equipment, and the layout of fasteners as well as development of kinematic concepts for flight.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Draft 3D CAD designs of structural concepts (
EG:
Solid Works, Catia) Select correct fastening techniques for joints, covers, and panels Layout of fasteners within aerostructures Prepare design concepts for stress analysis, inertial and kinetic studies. Prepare concepts for team reviews and senior management briefings Refine design concepts for efficient load paths and minimal weight Place 3D models of equipment into aircraft and design mounting concepts Work within an IPT environment to support multi-engineer trade studies across a broad spectrum of rationale Mature design concepts, conduct trends for engineering release Apply knowledge of manufacturing processes and material science into the design of parts, assemblies, and installations Translate Customer requirements into workable, well-engineered solutions Perform 3D routing of electrical harnesses and fuel systems Work with and coordinate with external suppliers for the selection and trade of component parts as part of design Participate in IPT level reviews and Customer reviews Support the shop floor during build and assembly of product and design infant type refinements to low cost and schedule issues. Novel design skills of aerospace systems and elements Perform additional duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
5-10 years' experience in mechanical design Proficient in SolidWorks (1000+ hrs) Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools, and systems Solid oral and written communication skills Strong interpersonal skills Self-motivated Experience of interfacing with customers for related technical issues
