ABOUT THE POSITION

Senior Traffic Engineer - Design | Hybrid VHB is seeking a strong Senior Traffic Engineer with solid design experience to join our vibrant and growing transportation consulting practice in Connecticut. This is an exciting opportunity to develop, analyze and evaluate traffic improvements, while being involved in transportation planning, safety, and engineering solutions for multimodal transportation projects. There is an option for someone to work from another VHB office to support CT projects, if meeting all qualifications. Engineering News-Record (ENR) magazine, a leading source of news and information for the engineering and construction industry, named VHB the 2024 Design Firm of the Year in New England.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop, analyze and evaluate traffic improvements including traffic signals and roundabouts
  • Develop traffic and transportation planning, safety, and engineering solutions for multimodal transportation projects
  • Conduct safety engineering analysis, including design and operational focused analysis
  • Design traffic control devices
  • Design work zone traffic control
  • Develop intersection design
  • Use guidance within the MUTCD to prepare and oversee traffic signal warrant analyses
  • Attend and lead meetings with transportation agencies and private developers
  • Prepare and participate in presentations to the client team
  • Prepare and review technical memoranda and reports

Skills & Abilities:
  • A strong background in traffic engineering and task management
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
  • Strong writing skills for proposals, technical reports and memoranda
  • The ability to balance multiple concurrent assignments
Final Design Plan Development Qualifications:
  • 5-8 years of professional transportation/traffic design engineering experience required, depending on level of education
  • Proficiency in Synchro required
  • Proficiency in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD required
  • Vissim modeling capabilities a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required
  • Master's degree a plus (master's degree may substitute for 1 year of experience)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • PTOE (Professional Traffic Operations Engineer) certification a plus The full-time annual base salary range for this position is $100,000 to $125,000 if located in Massachusetts, and $95,000 to $135,000 if located in Connecticut or New Hampshire.

The base salary offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted salary range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program. Annual base salary is one component of VHB's Total Rewards package. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may receive annual incentive compensation bonuses, spot bonuses, and merit-based salary increases, providing opportunities to increase earnings beyond base pay.
