Job Description

As a Transportation Design Engineer, you'll work in a team, collaborative, and fast paced environment. Your typical work assignments may include onsite storm drainage analysis and design, offsite cross drainage and floodplain hydraulic impacts analysis and design, erosion control, preparation of technical reports and memorandum, and preparation of construction plans, estimates, and specifications (PS&E). Responsibilities could include but are not limited to:
  • Work in a team environment with other project engineers on the detailed drainage analysis and design of urban and rural transportation projects including roadways, site facilities, and railways.
  • Conduct drainage analysis and design per the requirements of the project and various state and local public transportation agencies such as WSDOT and FHWA.
  • Provide support in the preparation of contract drainage drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Assist in the preparation of project-specific drainage reports and technical memoranda.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Transportation Group Leader and/or Project Managers/Engineers as needed.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • Professional Engineering license.
  • 4-6 years of experience in hydrology and hydraulic engineering and drainage systems design.
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, communication and organizational skills.
Ideally, You'll Also Have:
  • Experience using CADD/Design software (Microstation/OpenRoads and AutoCAD/Civil 3D) and H&H design software (HEC-RAS 1D and/or 2D, Stormshed 3G, FHWA Hydraulic Toolbox).
  • Experience in stormwater management, water quality, and erosion and sediment control.
  • Experience with a municipality, WSDOT, or engineering consultant focused on drainage projects.
  • Familiarity with the WSDOT Hydraulics & Hydrology Manual, Highway Runoff Manual, and Western and/or Eastern Washington Stormwater Manuals.
