Job Title:
Process Engineer Job Description The Process Engineer leads process development and manufacturing readiness for electro-mechanical and cable harness assembly lines in a contract manufacturing environment. This role develops, qualifies, and improves manufacturing techniques and process flows, supports new product introductions and legacy products, and drives continuous improvement in quality, cost, and delivery. The Process Engineer collaborates closely with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure robust, scalable, and efficient production processes for complex electro-mechanical systems. Responsibilities Own process development and manufacturing readiness for electro-mechanical and cable harness assembly lines. Develop, qualify, and continuously improve manufacturing techniques, process flows, and work instructions for electro-mechanical assemblies. Support new product introductions (NPI), including transitioning products from First Time Build into full production. Sustain and optimize manufacturing processes for legacy products to improve quality, cost, and throughput. Create, maintain, and update process documentation, including work instructions, process maps, and capacity models. Troubleshoot manufacturing issues on the production floor, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions. Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma methodologies. Develop cost estimates and quotations for new electro-mechanical assemblies, including cable and harness builds and box-build assemblies. Coordinate with external vendors and suppliers to support on-time hardware delivery in alignment with production schedules. Plan and execute future factory expansion initiatives, including capital equipment planning and optimization of floor layouts. Lead efforts to improve manufacturing efficiency, including transitioning processes from manual operations to automated solutions where appropriate. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure products are designed and configured for manufacturability, quality, and cost effectiveness. Apply strong understanding of materials and manufacturing processes—such as machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, 3D printing, and cable assembly—to develop robust production methods. Interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and GD&T to define process requirements and ensure compliance with specifications. Utilize ERP systems to support production planning, process control, and quoting activities. Participate in or lead cross-functional project teams, providing technical guidance, trade-off analysis, scheduling input, and change management support. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field. Minimum 3 years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer working with electro-mechanical systems and/or cable assemblies. Proven experience transitioning products from First Time Build (FTB) into full production in a manufacturing environment. Strong experience developing and implementing manufacturing processes and techniques for production environments. Hands-on experience with thermo-mechanical assemblies, machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, machined parts, 3D printed components, cable assemblies, and system configurations. Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and GD&T. Solid understanding of manufacturability for materials such as aluminum, steel, stainless steel, tool steel, and plastics. Experience applying Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements. Experience with new product introduction (NPI) in a manufacturing setting. Familiarity with ERP systems to support manufacturing and quoting activities. Experience with cable and harness manufacturing and related process engineering. Experience in process engineering for electro-mechanical assemblies and box-build configurations. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in a contract manufacturing environment serving diverse markets such as medical, military, semiconductor, or similar industries. Ability to analyze tolerance stack-ups and apply design for manufacturability (DFM) principles. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced production environment. Proven project management experience working with internal teams and external suppliers to deliver products on schedule and within budget. Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously while maintaining high quality standards. Strong communication skills and the ability to build collaborative relationships with customers, vendors, and internal stakeholders. Experience leading cross-functional teams, including providing technical guidance, trade-off analysis, scheduling input, and managing changes. Self-starter mindset with strong execution, ownership, and follow-through on commitments. Familiarity with ISO or similar quality management systems and visual management practices. Understanding of quoting processes and cost estimation for electro-mechanical and cable harness assemblies. Knowledge of surface mount technology (SMT) processes is a plus. Work Environment This position operates within a contract manufacturing environment that supports a diverse range of markets, including medical, military, semiconductor, and other high-reliability industries. The work involves close collaboration with production, quality, supply chain, and engineering teams on the manufacturing floor and in office settings. You will work with a variety of manufacturing technologies, including machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, 3D printing, cable and harness assembly, SMT processes, and box-build integration, supported by ERP systems and structured process documentation. The environment is fast-paced and project-driven, with a strong focus on on-time delivery, continuous improvement, and scalable production solutions.
