Job Title:
Industrial Engineer Manufacturing Process Improvement Engineer Job Description An Industrial Engineer in manufacturing is responsible for optimizing production systems by analyzing, designing, and improving workflows, processes, and equipment. The goal is to maximize efficiency, quality, and safety while minimizing costs and waste. Responsibilities Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to analyze, design, and optimize production processes, eliminating waste, reducing cycle times, and improving overall operational efficiency while maintaining high product quality. Perform on-shift continuous observations for compliance with management and lean systems, identify downtime, and recommend improvements. Evaluate existing manufacturing or operational processes to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and waste. Develop and implement optimized workflows, layouts, and process changes using Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies. Conduct time studies, capacity analyses, and value stream mapping to drive productivity improvements. Review production schedules, engineering specifications, and process flows to determine the most cost-effective methods for manufacturing. Conduct studies to establish labor standards, optimize task performance, and enhance workforce productivity. Implement solutions by developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Standard Work Instructions (SWI), identify and execute improvement projects. Perform root cause analysis for production and maintenance issues and collaborate with the operations team on program deliverables. Develop and enforce quality control procedures to resolve production bottlenecks and maximize product reliability. Collect and analyze operational data to uncover trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement. Build models and KPIs to monitor performance and support decision-making. Prepare reports, dashboards, and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations. Provide engineering support to operations and manufacturing teams and recommend and evaluate equipment, tooling, and automation opportunities. Support layout planning and facility optimization initiatives. Design and optimize plant layouts, workstation arrangements, and material flow, often using software like AutoCAD or SolidWorks. Perform cost reduction analyses, track production data, and develop management control systems to improve financial outcomes. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related field. Proficiency with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software. Strong data analysis skills, including Minitab or Excel. Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies. Critical thinking, problem-solving, strong communication, and project management capabilities. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with and troubleshooting robotics/controls systems, Control Logix PLCs, and plant application controls and automation. Skilled in Microsoft Office applications. Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively with external machine builders and system integrators for detail design, build, and integration of later stages of machine system implementation. Strong organizational skills and a high level of self-motivation. Demonstrated technical project management experience. Strong logical and methodical reasoning capabilities. Solid understanding of safety systems design. Ability to manage multiple issues in a fast-paced work environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex issues. Work Environment The work environment involves working with automated equipment for the manufacturing of solar panels in a highly automated, low mix/high volume setting. The position requires working on a continental work schedule involving 4 shifts (2 day and 2 night shifts) from 6:30 to 6:30, including some weekends. The facility is brand new with opportunities for improvement, equipped with new automation systems and equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Mill, SC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $110000.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
