Manufacturing Engineer Position Summary The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for supporting daily production operations while driving improvements in safety, quality, productivity, and cost. This position develops and implements manufacturing processes, leads continuous improvement initiatives, troubleshoots production issues, and manages capital improvement projects. The Manufacturing Engineer serves as the technical expert for assigned production lines and works closely with operations, quality, maintenance, supply chain, and product engineering teams to achieve business objectives. Essential Responsibilities Manufacturing Process Ownership Own assigned production lines and manufacturing processes. Monitor process performance using KPIs including OEE, scrap, labor efficiency, throughput, and downtime. Develop and maintain process documentation, standard work instructions, PFMEAs, and control plans. Establish process parameters and ensure compliance through audits and operator training. Support daily production requirements and provide immediate technical assistance during process disruptions. Continuous Improvement Lead Lean Manufacturing initiatives focused on waste reduction, productivity improvements, and cost savings. Facilitate Kaizen events and root cause problem-solving activities. Analyze process data to identify bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement. Implement corrective and preventive actions using structured methodologies such as DMAIC, PDCA, or 8D. Drive measurable improvements in quality, cycle times, and manufacturing costs. Equipment and Automation Specify, procure, install, and validate manufacturing equipment. Lead automation projects involving robotics, conveyors, vision systems, PLCs, and automated assembly equipment. Develop machine acceptance criteria and support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT). Collaborate with maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime. Manage preventive maintenance improvements and equipment upgrades. New Product Introduction (NPI) Support product launches from prototype through full production. Develop process flow diagrams, manufacturing layouts, and line balancing plans. Estimate labor requirements, equipment capacity, and tooling needs. Coordinate tooling procurement and process validation activities. Participate in design reviews to ensure manufacturability and cost effectiveness. Quality Systems Support Work closely with Quality Engineers to resolve customer and internal quality concerns. Conduct root cause analysis using tools such as: 5 Why Fishbone Diagram Pareto Analysis SPC DOE Support PPAP submissions and production process validation. Develop and monitor process capability metrics (Cp, Cpk). Reduce defect rates, scrap, and rework costs. Project Management Lead capital expenditure projects from concept through implementation. Develop project timelines, budgets, ROI analyses, and implementation plans. Coordinate contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders. Ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget. Present project updates and results to leadership. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) The Manufacturing Engineer will be measured on: OEE improvement Scrap reduction Cost savings generated Production throughput increases Downtime reduction Labor productivity improvements Equipment reliability Safety performance Successful product launches On-time project completion Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field.
Strong understanding of:
Lean Manufacturing Six Sigma Root Cause Analysis Process Validation Statistical Analysis Ability to create, read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and Office applications. Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar CAD software. Preferred Qualifications Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification. Experience with CNC machining, stamping, welding, assembly, plastics, or automation. Knowledge of PLC programming and industrial controls. Familiarity with
ISO 9001, IATF
16949, or other quality management systems. Project management experience with capital equipment installations. Physical Requirements Ability to spend up to 70% of time on the manufacturing floor. Ability to walk production areas regularly. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. Must wear required PPE in manufacturing environments.
