Job Description
An international automotive parts manufacturer in the Shelbyville, TN area is looking for a Quality Engineer. Ideal candidate would have at least 3 years of supplier or customer quality experience and interaction with automotive OEMs.
Quality Engineer Responsibilities:
Monitor project quality metrics and performance throughout the product development lifecycle, recommending process improvements and evaluating the effectiveness of corrective actions. Investigate and resolve quality-related issues within assigned projects and communicate quality concerns and alerts to manufacturing teams to support successful product launches. Collaborate with supplier quality representatives to address nonconforming materials and products. Analyze, track, and report customer returns, complaints, and product rejections. Develop and implement process control plans and quality improvement initiatives to minimize customer defects and rejects. Prepare and maintain quality documentation required for new product launches and establish project quality objectives. Participate in project meetings and coordinate training activities related to new product introductions. Travel to customer facilities as needed to support product quality evaluations and resolve product performance concerns. Attend tooling trials and conduct internal fit, function, and quality assessments, providing feedback on product development and manufacturing issues. Coordinate product validation activities, functional testing, and part submission approvals for both new product launches and engineering changes. Prepare and submit customer-required part approval documentation. Coordinate prototype and production part availability for testing, dimensional inspections, and validation activities while communicating schedules to relevant stakeholders. Maintain Product Development Records and document quality-related issues throughout the development process. Recommend design modifications to improve product fit, finish, functionality, and overall quality. Maintain regular communication with customers, suppliers, and internal cross-functional teams regarding project status and quality matters. Other responsibilities might be assigned by upper management Quality Engineer Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field Minimum of 3 years of Quality Engineering experience in an automotive manufacturing environment CQE and CAQ certification preferred Hands-on experience with APQP, PPAP, Customer Quality, and Supplier Quality Working knowledge of ISO 9001
standards Familiarity with core automotive quality tools (FMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA) Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality systems This position includes manufacturing and office work environment. While performing the duties of this job you may be required to intermittently sit, stand, walk, lift up to 25 pounds, lift in excess of 25 pounds with a lift assist, climb stairs, use hands to handle or feel parts/equipment, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend at the waist, talk and hear. You may also be required to use close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
