  • 5:00 PM Industry manufacturing & production (Production Occupations) Reference number S_179017 Spherion is seeking a hands-on equipment builder who can take ownership of designing and building custom, semi-automated manufacturing equipment from concept through commissioning.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a mix of engineering design, fabrication, assembly, and controls/programming-someone who can take a problem, create a solution, and physically build it.
Responsibilities:
  • Design custom manufacturing equipment, fixtures, and automation solutions (mechanical and basic electrical).
  • Develop concepts, models, and detailed drawings using CAD.
  • Source and specify mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control system components.
  • Fabricate and machine select components in-house (manual machining and/or CNC).
  • Assemble, wire, and integrate complete equipment systems.
  • Program PLCs, HMIs, and basic control logic for semi-automated equipment.
  • Perform testing, troubleshooting, and final commissioning of equipment.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to refine requirements and ensure successful deployment.

Education:
High School Experience:
4-7 years
Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience designing and building custom manufacturing or automation equipment (or strong hands-on portfolio).
  • Experience with machining (manual or CNC) and basic fabrication (welding, cutting, etc.).
  • Experience with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar) and control panel wiring.
  • Knowledge of pneumatics, sensors, motion control, and industrial automation components.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently from concept through completion.
