Job Description
Job Summary The Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and supporting automated manufacturing systems to improve safety, quality, productivity, and reliability. This role works closely with Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance to integrate automation solutions, optimize existing systems, and support continuous improvement initiatives across the manufacturing facility. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and implement automated systems for manufacturing and production processes Program, troubleshoot, and optimize PLCs, HMIs, robotics, and vision systems Support installation, commissioning, and validation of new automation equipment Improve system reliability, uptime, and performance through root cause analysis and continuous improvement Collaborate with Operations and Maintenance to reduce downtime and improve OEE Develop and maintain automation documentation, schematics, and SOPs Ensure automation systems meet safety, quality, and regulatory requirements Support new product introductions and equipment upgrades Manage automation-related capital projects and vendor relationships Provide technical training and support to maintenance and production teams Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent experience) 3+ years of experience in industrial automation or controls engineering Hands-on experience with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar) Experience with HMIs, robotics, servo systems, and industrial networks Strong troubleshooting skills in electrical, controls, and automated systems Familiarity with manufacturing safety standards and machine guarding Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment Preferred Qualifications Experience in industrial manufacturing, machinery, automotive, aerospace, or packaging Experience with robotics (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, or similar) Vision systems and motion control experience Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement methodologies Experience with SCADA systems and data collection Key Competencies Automation & Controls Expertise Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis Project Management Cross-Functional Collaboration Safety & Quality Focus Continuous Improvement Mindset Work Environment This role is primarily based in a manufacturing environment and may require time on the shop floor and occasional travel.
