Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Essential Duties:
 Transportation Engineer
I, II, III
Coordinates and/or monitors assigned projects/programs/plans.

Develops and/or reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans.

Develops and/or reviews environmental documents and prepares remediation plans.

Interprets manuals and required guidelines for traffic operations.

Performs and/or coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submission, specialspecifications or special provisions.

Performs data collection, analyses, forecasts and plan development.

Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates andcontracts.

Performs pavement designs and makes recommendations.

Reviews designs and detailed drawings of bridges and related structures prepared by other engineers and technicians.

Reviews, processes and certifies project design plans developed by consulting engineers.

Writes/reviews proposals and estimates for letting.

Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Additional Duties for
Transportation Engineer II, III:
Performs data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and/or plan development.

Performs complex hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of structures over waterways and summarizes the analysis in reportform.

Assists in the development, preparation and letting of maintenance contracts for the district.

Provides technical assistance in drainage design, resolution of drainage complaints, hydraulics evaluations and otherhydrology matters.

Responsible for the review of construction related to operations.

Reviews shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements and change order requests.
