As a Traffic Design Engineer, P.E., you will support mid to large-scale transportation projects with a focus on Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) and/or Signing, Pavement Marking design, ITS, Signals, and Lighting. This role is ideal for an experienced traffic engineer who is technically strong, detail-oriented, and motivated to grow into larger project responsibilities while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and public agencies. What are the core responsibilities for the role? Develop Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans for transportation projects, including temporary traffic control, detours, and phased construction Perform analysis, design, and plan sheet preparation for signing, striping, ITS, signals, lighting, and/or MOT for highways, arterials, interchanges, and intersections Support technical leads and project managers on traffic design tasks while ensuring compliance with MUTCD, AASHTO, and DOT standards Prepare studies, technical reports, construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates Coordinate with internal team members across disciplines to support project delivery Participate in meetings with clients, agencies, and project stakeholders Apply quality control practices to assigned design tasks and deliverables Manage multiple assignments and meet established project schedulesQualifications, Skills, and Competencies:
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university Professional Engineering (PE) license required 5 to 9 years of experience in traffic engineering analysis and design Experience with MOT and or signing and pavement marking design Working knowledge of MUTCD, AASHTO, and DOT standards Experience with Bentley ProjectWise, MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or similar design software Experience with Synchro, SimTraffic, Vistro, Vissim, or Aimsun preferred Familiarity with UDOT or other DOT plan preparation procedures Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment Self-motivated, organized, and attentive to detail Interest in continued professional development and taking on increasing responsibility over time Why would a candidate want this job?
