Job Description
Overview IperionX is seeking an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer to join our team at IperionX's Titanium Manufacturing Campus in the Southern Virginia Technology Park. In this role, you will be responsible for driving the development and production of complex metal components using cutting-edge additive manufacturing technologies, with a strong focus on Binder Jetting and Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) . You'll play a critical part in advancing our manufacturing capabilities from print preparation and process optimization to post-processing and full production readiness ensuring high-quality, scalable output. As a key contributor, you will collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, operations, quality, and customer teams to bridge the gap between innovation and execution, helping bring next-generation titanium products from concept to reality. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: Prepare, optimize, and manage builds for metal additive manufacturing systems, with a primary focus on Binder Jetting and secondary support for LPBF technologies. Develop and refine Binder Jetting workflows, including print parameter development, depowdering considerations, sintering coordination, dimensional compensation strategies, and process repeatability improvements. Modify and adapt CAD models for additive manufacturability, sintering behavior, and downstream processing needs, including machining allowances where applicable. Support post-processing activities such as depowdering, heat treatment, sintering, support removal, surface finishing, HIP processing, and coordination with precision machining when required. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to transition components from concept through development, qualification, and full-rate production using additive and conventional manufacturing methods. Work closely with manufacturing and machining teams to ensure additive designs and processes integrate effectively with downstream machining and finishing operations. Assist in developing manufacturing standards, process documentation, work instructions, and process control methodologies for additive operations. Interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T standards to manufacturing and inspection processes. Support root cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality, throughput, and process stability. Maintain accurate manufacturing records, process documentation, and reporting within ERP and quality management systems. Communicate effectively across multidisciplinary teams including engineering, operations, quality, customers, suppliers, and equipment vendors. Evaluate and implement LPBF support structure strategies to improve dimensional accuracy, build reliability, and material efficiency. Contribute to technology road mapping, process innovation, equipment evaluation, and implementation of emerging additive manufacturing technologies. Stay current with advancements in additive manufacturing, machining technologies, and industry standards through training, research, and participation in professional organizations and consortiums. Requirements and Qualifications Required Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent industry experience. Hands-on experience with metal additive manufacturing technologies, particularly Binder Jetting and/or Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF). Strong understanding of Binder Jetting process flow, including printing, curing, depowdering, sintering, shrink compensation, and post-processing considerations. General understanding of conventional machining processes and CNC manufacturing capabilities. Proficiency in CAD modeling and additive manufacturing build preparation software. Understanding of post-processing requirements and dimensional considerations for metal AM components. Ability to interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T principles. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional technical teams and customer-facing environments. Preferred Experience with additive manufacturing simulation and build preparation software such as Magics, 3DXpert/Oqton, Netfabb, or Ansys Additive. Experience supporting production-scale additive manufacturing operations or process qualification activities. Familiarity with powder handling, sintering furnaces, thermal processing, or metallurgical evaluation of AM materials. Experience with process validation, statistical process control (SPC), or manufacturing quality systems. Involvement in additive manufacturing consortiums or standards committees (e.g., ASTM, AMUG, RAPID). Familiarity with material and manufacturing standards related to aerospace, defense, automotive, or medical industries. About IperionX Titanium metal is prized for its strength, light weight, and corrosion resistance. These properties are ideal for applications in the aerospace, defense, medical, automotive and consumer electronics industries. Titanium's problem is its high cost. The standard way to produce titanium metal, the Kroll process, was invented over 70 years ago, is complex, energy intensive, and expensive. IperionX has revolutionary technology to produce titanium metal at significantly lower energy, cost and carbon emissions. Our goal is to fundamentally transform the titanium industry. We are currently scaling production at our Virginia Titanium Manufacturing Campus, comprising the Titanium Production Facility and the Advanced Manufacturing Center. Additional information about IperionX can be found on our corporate website (www.iperionx.com).
