About the Opportunity Caledonia LLC is a growing local North Idaho company focused on precision manufacturing, importing, and supply solutions. We are expanding our in-house production capabilities with advanced fiber laser marking technology to produce high-volume, high-quality precision tags and components. We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Lead Fiber Laser Technician to operate and oversee multiple fiber laser systems. We need someone to be a part of setting up this new production and shipping line here in North Idaho. Position Summary You will serve as the primary operator and technical lead for our fiber laser marking production alongside 1-2 entry level operators. You will set up and run multiple fiber laser machines to produce precision tags featuring sequential numbering, custom imprints, and durable finishes built for demanding environments. Additional responsibilities include quality control, routine maintenance, safety compliance (including fume extraction systems), production record-keeping, and training/supporting team members as the operation grows. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys precision work, process improvement, and helping build a new production line from the ground up in a stable, local company. Key Responsibilities Set up, operate, monitor, and optimize multiple fiber laser marking/engraving machines (including job loading via software such as LightBurn or equivalent, and adjusting parameters for speed, power, frequency, and focus on plastic/HDPE materials). Produce high volumes of precision tags that meet exact specifications for legibility, alignment, sequential numbering, and long-term durability. Perform in-process and final quality inspections; maintain detailed production records, job logs, and traceability documentation. Carry out routine machine maintenance, troubleshooting, and consumables management; coordinate external repairs as needed. Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols, including proper use of fume extraction/purification systems and required PPE. Train and support junior operators or helpers; contribute to developing and maintaining clear standard operating procedures (SOPs). Collaborate with management on production scheduling, workflow improvements, material/consumables inventory, and meeting delivery timelines. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times. Qualifications 2+ years of experience operating CNC machines, laser marking/engraving systems, or other precision manufacturing equipment preferred (direct fiber laser experience is a plus, but we will provide training on our specific systems and processes). Strong mechanical aptitude, excellent attention to detail, and a commitment to consistent quality output. Comfortable working with computer/software interfaces for job setup and machine control. Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in a production environment. Reliable, self-motivated team player with solid communication skills; prior lead, training, or quality control experience is helpful. High school diploma or GED required; technical certification, trade school, or coursework in CNC/manufacturing is a plus. Must pass a background check (role supports compliance-sensitive work). Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
