Summary The Encapsulation Technician (Encap Tech) is responsible for the efficient operation, basic maintenance, cleanliness, & productivity of automated and semi-automated encapsulation equipment and surrounding production area. The Encap Tech is also responsible for the accurate and timely completion of all operational / quality documents associated with the handling of products, equipment/supplies, are immediate environment used in all encapsulation operations. The Encap Tech will also need to (a) utilize efficient problem-solving skills, (b) understand the various characteristics of different powder and capsule types used in production operations, and (c) quickly and safely make appropriate adjustments to their equipment to ensure all capsule products are made according to established specification parameters and production deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
Set-up and breakdown of machine and fixtures for processing. Work is based on specific guidelines for each machine and part. Set-up activities may require the use of hand tools. Carefully handles and washes and encapsulation machinery parts prior to storage or use in cGMP compliant production runs. In charge of handling & loading blended powders and capsules into and from encapsulation equipment. Responsible for verifying all materials, components, supplies, carts, tools, and parts needed are properly checked in and utilized during the encapsulation process. Routinely and frequently inspect powders, capsules, and machine parts by visual and manual means to ensure quality standards are met based on inspection guidelines. Must understand differences in various powder formulations & excipients that affect flowability, compressibility, density, dispersibility, & hygroscopicity. Must identify and understand the mechanical functions of all related encapsulation equipment parts, blowers, vacuums, and polishers and be able to diagnose and quickly troubleshoot issues that affect capsule fill volumes and quality. Checks, corrects, and immediately reports any conditions which are not conducive to a safe, clean workplace or significantly affects production quality & timelines. Complete documentation timely, accurately, and legibly per established guidelines. Must be able to perform basic arithmetic to calculate large counts based on average weights of a sample population. Maintains clean and orderly work area including cleaning machines, breakdown of machine, tools, and area around workstation. Must be able to successfully pass all job-related tests and certifications required for working in a cGMP quality environment to perform essential functions of the job. Must re-qualify every year on all job-related tests and certifications as qualifications require. Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education :
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Experience :
Preferred:
3+ years of experience with machine operation within a high-volume manufacturing environment. Required within 30 days upon hire: Strong understanding of industry regulations, quality standards, and company SOP's.

Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is continuously required to stand for prolong periods of time; use continuous hand, arm and finger manipulation cleaning and set-up of the machine while performing the daily job function; continuously walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching and standing/walking throughout production room requiring balance. Environment requires climbing a ladder, so comfortable clothing and shoes with non-skid soles are recommended. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 60 pounds and sometimes is required to carry this load while climbing steps or washing parts in a wet sink.
The vision requirements include:
clear concise, close/distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee must also be able to hear slight differences in mechanical sounds that may signify issues that will affect the safe operation of the encapsulation equipment.
Assembling & Encapsulating:
10 hours a day, 4-day schedule work week, depending on order and production. Some overtime may be required.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and dry dusty conditions; moving mechanical parts; airborne particles; the noise level in the environment is moderate. Exposure to blending material agents, supplies and fumes, prepares orders with operating equipment that may release airborne particles, moving mechanical equipment to complete assembly of machinery.
